What's the difference between the live-action remake and the 1937 animated Snow White film? The latter was the better one. In case you need to confirm this, take a look at Rotten Tomatoes, which clearly shows a big gap among the critics' approval ratings concerning the films.

While the animated movie sits with a 97% score, the live-action version is below average, with 44% at the time of writing.

But that's not the only difference there. There are many, some of which the fans have shared their disappointment with. Especially when Doc, Grumpy, Happy, Sleepy, Bashful, Sneezy, and Dopey weren't really there.

Actually, that's kind of similar, as they all were simply animated with some puppeteers giving a helping hand in their motion capture. In reality, they never existed, and only the voices were real, like the animated ones.

However, there are more differences in the latest media adaptation of the story, and we will now see a few of them one by one in this list.

Major differences between the latest and the original Snow White films

5. Evil Queen's death has a twist

The Evil Queen, whom Gal Gadot plays in the latest film, originally dies a different death in the 1937 film. After she has poisoned the princess-turned-maid in the dwarf cottage, she runs through the forest while dwarves and animals chase her while it's raining cats and dogs. She climbs a cliff, and a thunderstorm causes her to fall into the chasm as the two vultures watch.

However, the latest version lets her live a bit more as the princess rushes with her friends to retake the kingdom from the Evil Queen. Here, her Magic Mirror sort of betrays her; at least, that's what she might be thinking after the Mirror called the princess fairer. She smashes it and is eventually sucked into it.

4. Snow White's got a bandit charming here

In the original story, Snow White has a Prince Charming who falls for her voice. As it has been established, the character is pivotal to the story, especially the infamous scene where he kisses her, and the princess comes alive out of the sleeping death caused by that poisoned apple the Evil Queen gives her.

We don't really have a Prince Charming in the 2025 remake of the story; we have a Bandit Charming. Although he looks more like a Robin Hood, just without a hood. And, well, arrows.

3. There are no gooseberry pies

Rachel Zegler's Snow White could have added more flavor to the film only if she had baked the gooseberry pies with the dwarves' names on them. The original story sees birds help and listen to her sweet voice as she bakes the delicious pie.

We don't get to see this bit in the 2025 film. We don't even see her clean the dwarves' house like she did in the original counterpart back in 1937.

2. Dopey can speak, crazy right?

This is perhaps one of the major changes in 2025's Snow White. Dopey is the youngest of all dwarves, and we can remember him as the only one communicating through pantomime.

Now as we know, the film was given an overhaul, and Dopey was a part of it. The character, who is a magical creature more than a dwarf, not only speaks; he is the narrator of the film.

1. Snow White apparently has a backstory now

This is actually one interesting touch that the 2025's Snow White brings to the story that wasn't there in the first place. She was already living with her cold-hearted stepmother in 1937.

But the 2025 version reveals that she was a princess named after the day she was born when the snow was falling. Her mother dies, and her father marries a new queen, who would later become the Evil Queen.
