It sat there grinning at me, a face gaping with an impossible smile from the blackness beyond my bedroom window. I live on the 14th floor, far above any streetlight or balcony where anyone could stand. I couldn't move away from the window anymore; I tried to forget the rising terror inside me, but the face didn't budge-it only grinned more at seeing that my fear amused it. I rushed to my phone to call the police, but the face was gone when I looked back at the window again. But, then I heard a faint whisper behind me: "I'm inside now."
