19) There is nothing like the laughter of a baby. Unless it's 1 A.M. and you're home alone.
It's impossible to deny the tender, naive laughter of a baby. However, hearing the same at 1 a.m., sitting home alone, sounds quite different and sends a cold tingle down your spine. I tried to convince myself it was some neighbor's baby or a voice echoing through the building, but the laughter was so close, it was almost unmistakable. I searched the house, scanning every room and corner, but found nothing. Then, just as before, it happened again. This time, it came from the attic. Now the laughter was louder, but now it was followed by a soft, husky whisper: 'Come play with me.'
