3) Joaquin Phoenix in Gladiator

Actor Joaquin Phoenix acted as Emperor Commodus in the movie Gladiator. A scene involved a confrontation between his character and Lucilla. The scene was iconic in itself, but then Phoenix improvised and in a spine-tingling voice said the legendary line, “Am I not merciful?” The scene added so much depth and emotion to the scene that it was highly appreciated by the director and was added to the movie.
