While shooting for American History X, director Tony Kaye had multiple conflicts with people behind the scenes and with actor Edward Norton. The director was not happy with New Line Cinema’s desire to make changes to the film and this resulted in the studio taking away his editing rights. Norton took part in the editing though, which enraged Kaye further.
