Another surprising casting that was in the talks was George Clooney playing the role of the passionate Noah in The Notebook (2004). Even though it is difficult to envision anyone other than Ryan Gosling, Clooney could have been the leading man. But he backed out because he watched the work of older Noah, played Paul Newman, and considered himself less good-looking than him.
