In Whiteout, Macht plays a U.S. Marshal in Antarctica, facing the extreme cold along with a murder investigation. This intense setting enables Macht to play a much more stoic and intense character whose survival instincts are put through a real challenge in very unyielding conditions. He subtly brings a bit of emotional depth to what might have been one-note playing. As Roland, Macht takes on the challenge of being alone in an Antarctica setting fraught with danger, effectively grounding the atmosphere- and suspense-heavy movie.
