3) The Spectacular Now (2013)
The Spectacular Now is a tender coming-of-age tale that traces the lives of troubled high school student Sutter and a shy girl Aimee as they find romance, experience loss, and learn about themselves. Unflinching with any pretense usually found in high school romances, the film engages in more profound subject matters like alcoholism and insecurity as ways to lose one's sense in such challenges. Miles Teller and Shailene Woodley act so truthfully that they add layers to what feels like a realistic story, making it quite poignant in its discussion of young love and how emotional scars forge us.
