The movie is based on the oppression of the British Raj in India. When the British impose tax on a draught-stricken village, Bhuvan challenges them to a cricket match. If the Britishers win the villagers will pay thrice the amount of tax and if the villagers win they will be exempted from paying the tax for three years. The movie delves into the themes of teamwork, social injustice, the human spirit, and resilience. The movie received a nomination for Best Foreign Language Film.
