Sylvester Stallone was at first cast for Axel Foley, but he dropped out, reportedly wanting the film more as an action thriller, rather than a comedy that would end up being, and the humor that this franchise is famous for. Eddie Murphy starred in the movie, replacing Stallone after he left due to creative disagreements. Sylvester Stallone later joked that leaving it was a blessing since he got to give his attention to Rambo: First Blood Part II which was released in 1985.
