Salma Hayek's transformation into Frida Kahlo in Frida was fantastic. Hayek bore such an uncanny resemblance to the Mexican artist, with bold eyebrows and traditional Mexican costume, that one could almost forget she was an actor. Her performance was carefully balanced between physicality and emotion as she portrayed the genius, pain, and resilience of Kahlo. Working tirelessly to capture Kahlo's complex spirit, Salma Hayek earned a nomination for an Academy Award. Beyond being a visual tributary, Hayek transmits Kahlo's powerful legacy, and the movie has a deep emotional answer.
