Helen Mirren's performance as Queen Elizabeth II in The Queen was a class on both physical and emotional transformation. She paid such minute attention to detail that it made her almost unrecognizable as she mimicked the Queen's distinct mannerisms, her posture, and so on. She did capture the character of the monarch-the restraint yet steadiness-when things were getting turbulent after Princess Diana's death. The film got Mirren an Academy Award for Best Actress, which has made her one of the finest actresses in her generation, while her resemblance to the Queen was truly striking.
