As charming and glorious as the film business seems, it comes with its drawbacks. Not everything and everyone is as they are portrayed. Often actors have a great bond on-screen, but the off-screen reality can be totally opposite.

Here is a list of 20 actors who left a film/show owing to their feud with other actors. Sometimes the bad blood between these actors can be so severe that they refuse to work in any future collaborations and sometimes make it a point to jeopardize the other’s career and get them fired from a particular production.

20) Charlie Sheen and Selma Blair

While filming Anger Management, Charlie Sheen and Selma Blair had a massive rift between them. Selma made comments in public about the unserious and tardy nature of Charlie Sheen which was received quite badly by him.

Charlie Sheen happened to be the executive producer of the show and demanded the immediate removal of Selma. Her character was written out as per his demands. Owing to this unfair dismissal, Selma Blair made a countermove of suing the show for 1.2 million dollars.

Debra Winger was set to play the role of Dottie Hinson in the movie A League of Their Own. She was three months deep in training for her role when she heard the news that Madonna was also being cast in the movie. She did not agree to this move as she believed her casting would overshadow the film’s message about women’s baseball during World War II. Eventually, she exited the film and her role was taken over by Gene Davis.

Julianna Margulies and Archie Panjabi worked together in the show - The Good Wife. They had a feud and Archie Panjabi eventually left the show after season six. So much so, that their final few scenes were filmed together using a green screen as they did not even want to be in the same room together.

17) Lindsay Lohan and America Ferrera

Lindsay Lohan had a guest appearance in the show Ugly Betty which starred America Ferrera in the main role. Allegedly Lohan and Ferrera had a feud owing to their lifestyle, working habits, and behaviour. Lindsay was supposed to stay on the show for six episodes as per contract but left after just four.

16) Alec Baldwin and Shia LeBeouf

Alec Baldwin and Shia LeBeouf were both cast together for the Broadway production of Orphans. But Shia LeBeouf eventually exited the project stating the reason to be “creative differences.” Eventually, it was revealed that the real reason was personality clashes between the two stars.

While Alec Baldwin was slow and overly relaxed in his approach to practicing lines, Shia LeBeouf was energetic and used to get annoyed with Baldwin’s lethargic approach.

15) Kiefer Sutherland and Freddie Prinze Jr.

The television show 24 had Kiefer Sutherland and Freddie Prinze Jr. cast. But both of them had a massive feud on the set with Prinze going on to say that Sutherland was highly unprofessional and working with him made him want to quit acting entirely. Eventually, he left the show, but their feud received wide media coverage and they sure wouldn’t be collaborating again for any other project in the future.

Alyssa Milano and Shannen Doherty were working together on Charmed when a feud broke out between them. They clashed a lot owing to brewing competition between them. Eventually, Shannen Doherty’s character was written off the show and she claimed it was done because of Alyssa Milano. Recently they had made up as Doherty was diagnosed with cancer and Milano reached out to her. However, Doherty unfortunately succumbed to the disease and passed away earlier this year.

13) James Franco and Tyrese Gibson

The filming of Annapolis in 2006 caused bad blood between James Franco and Tyrese Gibson. So much so, that while practicing fight sequences, Franco allegedly actually hit Gibson. However, Franco later apologized that his method acting tendencies make him take on a role too seriously. They somehow managed to film Annapolis together but after that, both passed on various projects just to avoid filming with each other.

12) Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj

Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj were both recruited as judges on season thirteen of American Idol. But a major beef erupted between them. The shooting was often filled with tension and even contestants started feeling uncomfortable. Once, Nicki Minaj even stormed off the sets due to a clash. Eventually, both of them left the show after that season refusing to collaborate ever again in the future.

11) Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder

The reason Nina Dobrev left The Vampire Diaries was not a feud but love. Both of them had a sizzling chemistry on-screen which transcended off-screen. Eventually after dating for a couple of years, they broke up. Although she never blamed anyone and to this day respects Ian, she allegedly felt discomfort filming with him and left the show after six seasons.

Actors Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughn while filming Four Christmases clashed a lot. Witherspoon and Vaughn reportedly had two very different approaches to working which caused problems on set. Their feud escalated to a level where Vaughn even skipped promotional events. Since then, they have passed on projects to avoid working with each other.

Another example of actors refusing to work together on projects again is Bruce Willis and Kevin Smith. While they were filming Cop Out, in 2010, they had personality clashes. Kevin Smith used to idolize Bruce Willis, but he said working with him was a shock for him. He reported, that Willis was very unserious and wouldn’t agree on retakes.

While filming Charlie’s Angel, Lucy Liu and Bill Murray reportedly got into an altercation on set. It happened because a scene was rewritten and Murray was not informed. He thought the changes were made by Liu and started insulting her. Her fellow crew members supported her and eventually, Bill Murray was replaced in the second film.

A famous feud occurred between Richard Gere and Sylvester Stallone while filming Lords of Flatbush. It started with a silly incident where Gere’s food stained Stallone’s pants. It eventually ended in a physical altercation between the two. Eventually, Richard Gere was removed from the movie. This incident happened in 1974 and to this day the tension between them has sustained.

6) Robert De Niro and Mickey Rourke

Robert De Niro and Mickey Rourke had an altercation during the filming of Angel Heart back in. 1987. The exact reason for the feud is unknown but it ended in both of them not talking to each other on sets.

In 2019, Rourke said he had a part in the film The Irishman, which Robert De Niro removed him from because he refuses to work with him to this day. While De Niro denied these claims, Rourke is very adamant on his side of the story.

5) Ryan Reynolds and Wesley Snipes

While filming Blade Trinity, Ryan Reynolds and Wesley Snipes had a conflict. Snipe who is known for staying in character even after the shoots stayed very cold and crude towards Reynolds and the team. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Snipes would communicate only through post-it notes while on set. Reynolds found this experience very difficult. He never publicly called out Snipes but he refused being a part of Blade 4 if it were made.

4) Jennifer Aniston and Leslie Mann

Jennifer Aniston was reportedly interested in working with director Judd Apatow. But she hesitates due to her bad blood with Apatow’s wife Leslie Mann. The feud allegedly happened because Aniston was replaced by Mann for The Comedian.

Jennifer Lopez and Sean Combs, known famously as - P Diddy, have had a controversy-filled relationship. They were involved in a nightclub shooting after which they were arrested and many more similar events frequently took place. Their relationship had a lot of drama with alleged cases of infidelity. They eventually separated and both were invited to judge American Idol season 13 together, but owing to their past, Sean Combs passed on the offer.

2) Will Smith and Janet Hubert

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, despite being a comic and fun show had a major feud going on. Will Smith and Janet Hubert had personality clashes and described each other as being difficult to work with. Eventually, Janet left the show and publicly criticized Will Smith for making her career a struggle.

One of the most infamous rivalries happened on the sets of The Fast and the Furious, between Vin Diesel and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Even using social media to indirectly attack each other, their rivalry seemed quite deep-rooted. Both were headstrong and powerful forces in Hollywood and thus often had personality clashes. Consequently, Dwayne Johnson left the franchise calling out Diesel to be manipulative.
