DJ Exotic is the pseudonym of Daniel Alejandro Salinas, a local Cali-born DJ and music artist. He was born on March 17, 1995, and began his career in the late 2010s. The DJ was performing at the Rey de Corazones motel in Cali to an intimate gathering of 200 people when he was shot after a fight broke out.
The singer was rushed to the nearby Cali Hospital Valle del Lili Clinic and underwent surgery. According to the Cali Metropolitan Police's Colonel Carlos Oviedo's statement, published by El Tiempo and here quoted via NME's article on the matter, the shooting took place around 5:30 a.m. local time:
"A patrol that was passing in front of this commercial establishment heard gunshots. They entered and found that, apparently, as a result of a private party, a fight broke out, leading to shots being fired."
The performance was an after-party of another event held earlier that evening. The performance was titled 'Remate Arcángel' and celebrated the end of Puerto Rican reggaeton singer Arcángel's concert in the city.
The attack led to the death of one person and two wounded, including DJ Exotic, where three were taken to the previously mentioned Cali Hospital Valle del Lili Clinic. The person who died was identified as 23-year-old Andrés Felipe Cuartas Reyes, who is alleged to have been the instigator of the shooting.
The police recovered a rifle as well as a revolver and two pistols from the motel. According to the report by EL Tiempo, authorities are considering sanctions against the motel. The motel has been closed temporarily for 10 days while the investigation continues.

DJ Exotic was rushed to the hospital and was in recovery alongside unidentified family members. One member, a young woman, was praying for his recovery and singing the song You Are Here, a Christian faith song written and composed by Jesús Adrián Romero and Marcela Gándara.
Another family member, who goes by @paisa.cam187 on TikTok, stated in a post to the site no longer available and here quoted via the Infobae article on the matter:
"Dj Exotic speedy recovery. I ask for a chain of prayer for a speedy recovery. Strength pri, God will not let go of your hand. Very soon on the dance floors Pri."
The DJ's son also expressed his hopes for his recovery via his mother, Marcela Reyes's social stories, stating:
"Dear God, we thank you because we have life. God I ask you to heal my dad from his headache and that he comes out alive, that he comes back to us, amen."
Marcela Reyes later added:
"I would give anything for you to always be happy, son, I would like for you to never go through anything difficult, without thinking I would give my life for you."

DJ Exotic, having married Marcela Reyes, is also known to have dated social media creator Valeria Gutierrez. He was arrested by the Columbian environmental authorities in 2021 for having a pet tiger.
The DJ is best known for his tracks such as Toxxxic, El Malo, and Trunk Go Boom. El Malo has over 244k views on YouTube and is a collaboration with the artist Crissin.
