After Alaric’s true motive is revealed as a vampire hunter he becomes a more interesting character in the show. It completely changes the dynamic of the show as we are made aware of his tragic past and his motive of seeking revenge for his wife’s death at the hands of a vampire which adds a layer of complexity to his character.
