The Basketball Diaries shows the initial allure of drug abuse and how it seems like a perfect escape from the pressure and anxieties that one faces in everyday life. The movie shows the harrowing effects of drug abuse through the life of a promising young basketball player Jim who gets intertwined by the allure of drugs. Initially, he uses less potent drugs as an experiment then gets stuck in the vicious cycle of of heroin addiction. Even though he tries to escape from his addiction the movie depicts how difficult it is to escape from an addiction and how easy it is to succumb to its powerful grip.
