Following closely after Valentine’s Day is – how appropriate – Singles Awareness Day (S.A.D) on February 15. If you’re one of us unfortunate, lonely, single individuals who turn to films as a way to escape reality, then you definitely have a list of film characters you would love to take out for a date, such as Ryan Gosling from Crazy Stupid Love, Emma Stone from Easy-A, or Michael B. Jordan from Every Single Michael B. Jordan film.
However, there are other characters we not only want to date, but sometimes skipping the date would be a wiser option. These are just a few film characters that we believe you would want to date but could make the absolute worst dates EVER.
1. Edward Cullen (Twilight):
Portrayed by Robert Pattinson, Edward Cullen is the ultimate shimmering bad boy. Yes, he’s moody and enigmatic, but his version of romance involves watching you while you’re asleep and not consuming you for dinner. Pattinson radiates allure, but remember, being with a century-old vampire who mingles with teenagers is the classic example of discomfort.
2. Loki (Thor Series):
Tom Hiddleston is magnetic as Loki, the God of Mischief, with his razor-sharp cheekbones and even sharper wit. But don’t let the charm fool you—he's the type to ghost you (literally) after starting an intergalactic war. Tom’s British smoothness makes Loki irresistible, but try explaining that family drama to your therapist.
3. Patrick Bateman (American Psycho):
Played by Christian Bale, Patrick Bateman will take you out for an expensive dinner, compliment your taste in business cards, and then, well... you know. Bale’s chiseled looks and cool demeanor mask the fact that this Wall Street psycho shouldn’t even be allowed near a butter knife.
4. Harley Quinn (Suicide Squad Series):
Margot Robbie embodies chaos in pigtails as Harley Quinn. With her killer smile and even deadlier baseball bat, Harley is that thrilling ex you still stalk on Instagram. Margot is undeniably gorgeous, but Harley’s penchant for toxic relationships (like the one with the Joker) makes her a walking red flag carnival.
5. The Joker (The Dark Knight):
Speaking of toxic, Heath Ledger's Joker takes "bad boy" to a whole new level. With his unsettling laughter and flair for explosives, dating him would mean never having a boring Friday night—but it might also mean losing a few friends along the way. Ledger's brilliance in the role makes the chaos almost appealing.
6. Tyler Durden (Fight Club):
Brad Pitt serves peak bad-boy energy as Tyler Durden, the shirtless philosopher who wants to tear down the capitalist system (and your sanity). Pitt’s abs could write sonnets, but Tyler’s disregard for, you know, laws and hygiene make him less of a boyfriend and more of a health code violation.
7. Miranda Priestly (The Devil Wears Prada):
Meryl Streep slays as Miranda Priestly, the high-fashion ice queen. With her devastatingly chic wardrobe and even frostier glares, she's the boss babe we all fear but secretly admire. However, good luck dating someone who thinks you're not even Runway material.
8. Amy Dunne (Gone Girl):
Rosamund Pike is dazzling as Amy Dunne, the cool girl turned nightmare. She’s brilliant and gorgeous and has an aesthetic for vengeance that Pinterest dreams are made of. Sure, Pike’s portrayal is captivating, but would you survive one date without waking up framed for a felony? Yes, the brutal and never-before-seen acts of Ben Affleck in the movie explain it all.
9. James Bond (Every James Bond Movie Ever):
Whether it’s Daniel Craig or Sean Connery, James Bond is the epitome of suave. His tuxedo game is unmatched, but the man can’t commit to anything longer than a shaken martini. Sure, he’s attractive, but unless you enjoy dodging bullets during brunch, maybe swipe left.
10. Anastasia Steele (Fifty Shades of Grey):
Played by Dakota Johnson, Anastasia is the shy bookworm swept off her feet by a billionaire with very specific hobbies. Sure, Johnson gives Ana a relatable charm, but let’s be real—dating her means signing a non-disclosure agreement before brunch and being okay with furniture that doubles as medieval torture devices.
11. Jordan Belfort (The Wolf of Wall Street):
Leonardo DiCaprio as Jordan Belfort is the life of every party—until the FBI shows up. Leo’s swagger and charisma are irresistible, but let’s not forget Jordan’s hobbies include money laundering and destroying perfectly good Lamborghinis. He’s fun until you’re the one footing his bail.
12. Catherine Tramell (Basic Instinct):
Sharon Stone brings deadly allure to Catherine Tramell, the femme fatale who can outwit anyone while rocking a white dress. Stone's performance oozes confidence, but dating Catherine is a gamble—she's just as likely to take you to a candlelit dinner as she is to leave you with a novel-worthy alibi.
13. Jack Sparrow (Pirates of the Caribbean):
Johnny Depp makes Jack Sparrow charming, witty, and possibly allergic to showers. He’ll sweep you off your feet (and onto a sinking ship), but beware—dating Jack means constantly bailing him out of pirate feuds and wondering if his compass will ever point to a healthy relationship.
14. Steve Stifler (American Pie):
Although he turned into the unofficial representative for the whole American Pie series, and regardless of that series' efforts to make him more relatable, Steve Stifler is simply the living example of Jim Carrey’s ‘most irritating noise in the world’ from Dumb and Dumber. There’s no way you’ll be having smart conversations with this fool.
15. John Wick (John Wick Series):
Keanu Reeves as John Wick is the ultimate brooding bad boy. Sure, he’s devoted and owns a dog (adorable!), but the body count he racks up on an average Tuesday might make your friends nervous. Reeves makes him irresistible, but dating John means every date night ends in a brawl.
16. Maleficent (Maleficent):
Angelina Jolie, as Maleficent, is mesmerizing with her sharp cheekbones and even sharper wit. Jolie brings grace to this misunderstood villain, but don’t let her charm fool you—she might curse your entire family tree if you forget an anniversary.
17. Maxim de Winter (Rebecca):
Played by Armie Hammer in the remake (and Laurence Olivier in the original), Maxim is literally brooding, wealthy, and haunted. Hammer gives him a smoldering intensity, but let’s not ignore that little “my dead wife might be haunting us” situation. Romantic? Maybe. Practical? Not so much.
18. Dr. Frank-N-Furter (The Rocky Horror Picture Show):
Tim Curry, as Dr. Frank-N-Furter, is the definition of “don’t dream it, be it.” He’s fabulous, flamboyant, and fearless but also slightly murderous. Curry’s electric performance makes him magnetic, but dating Frank is less about commitment and more about surviving the night.
19. Regina George (Mean Girls):
Rachel McAdams, as Regina George, is the queen of high school drama. She’s gorgeous, confident, and always has a perfectly delivered insult. But do you want to date someone who might spread rumors about you in the Burn Book? McAdams nails the role, but Regina’s your typical look, but don’t touch dream girl.
