October Sky is a movie based on the true story of Homer Hickman Jr., the son of a respected coal miner. Homer gets inspired by the artificial satellite Sputnik, becoming deeply interested in rocketry, and begins experimenting with rocket construction. This is one of the early movies of Jake Gyllenhaal, where his performance showed his natural talent in acting. Based on overcoming adversities, October Sky received several accolades and nominations and the Critics' Choice Movie Award for Best Family Film.
