Bale's performance has been cold and calculating but skilfully balances all aspects of a manic personality, swapping between the cold detachment of an investment banker and bursts of violent rage. Bale was so devoted to the role that he lost over 60 pounds for it. The film has since become iconic, and Bateman has become one of cinema's most unforgettable antiheroes, a point in Bale's career.
