Antony Starr brilliantly acts out the scene of Homelander engaging with his son, Ryan. The scene is both tender and terrifying, for Starr can seamlessly transition between being a loving father and an oppressive abuser. While trying to bond with Ryan, one can sense how slowly a domination need starts unfolding and finally reveals a broken psyche. Starr spectacularly weaves together tenderness and terror as Homelander, who only wants to make his son exactly like him, even at the cost of his psychological well-being, goes overboard.
