1. The Plane Scene

Homelander's brutal choice to do nothing while a whole plane full of innocent people is going down is a striking moment that defines his character. Antony Starr is just chilling in this scene; as Homelander watches the crash, he displays no signs of regret or moral struggle. Here, Starr proves how deep the god complex of Homelander runs as he tries to balance his desires against the death of these passengers. This scene demonstrates his detachment from human nature and reveals the cunning, heartless, and self-centered villain he truly is.
2. Homelander’s Milk Fetish
![The Boys (2019–present) | Image Source: Amazon Prime Video](https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/2f938-17388499550679.jpg?w=190 190w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/2f938-17388499550679.jpg?w=720 720w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/2f938-17388499550679.jpg?w=640 640w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/2f938-17388499550679.jpg?w=1045 1045w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/2f938-17388499550679.jpg?w=1200 1200w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/2f938-17388499550679.jpg?w=1460 1460w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/2f938-17388499550679.jpg?w=1600 1600w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/2f938-17388499550679.jpg 1920w)
Scenes that expose Homelander's obsession with drinking breast milk are both unflinchingly uncomfortable and sheerly brilliant at the same time. Such moments touch deeply the twisted need of Homelander for control, vulnerability, and, at the same time, power, to create an almost paradoxical layer to his character. Starr brings eerie tenderness to those moments, making his quiet desperation all the more disturbing. Though bizarre, these scenes subtly point out Homelander's emotional immaturity and his constant search for comfort and a maternal figure.
3. Using a baby
![The Boys (2019–present) | Image Source: Amazon Prime Video](https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/0360f-17388501925162.jpg?w=190 190w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/0360f-17388501925162.jpg?w=720 720w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/0360f-17388501925162.jpg?w=640 640w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/0360f-17388501925162.jpg?w=1045 1045w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/0360f-17388501925162.jpg?w=1200 1200w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/0360f-17388501925162.jpg?w=1460 1460w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/0360f-17388501925162.jpg?w=1600 1600w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/0360f-17388501925162.jpg 1920w)
The first episode of The Boys showcases Homelander's terrifying potential as a villain, and Starr is unsettlingly nonchalant as he uses the baby as a tool. Antony Starr perfectly gets Homelander's lack of morals and how he would even go so low as to use anyone, even a small child, for power. The coldness with which Homelander nonchalantly hands out death throughout the series sets the tone for the entire show. Starr shines here in an incredible display of Homelander's pure evil, manipulating his powers in ways that leave viewers stunned by the character's lack of humanity.
4. Madelyn Stillwell’s Death
![The Boys (2019–present) | Image Source: Amazon Prime Video](https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/a6498-17388502194392.jpg?w=190 190w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/a6498-17388502194392.jpg?w=720 720w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/a6498-17388502194392.jpg?w=640 640w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/a6498-17388502194392.jpg?w=1045 1045w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/a6498-17388502194392.jpg?w=1200 1200w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/a6498-17388502194392.jpg?w=1460 1460w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/a6498-17388502194392.jpg?w=1600 1600w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/a6498-17388502194392.jpg 1920w)
Antony Starr's take on Homelander's icy, calculated murder of Madelyn Stillwell in the season finale of The Boys Season 1 is a dark brilliance. It is stunning to see how much control Starr exerts over the character's emotions as Homelander kills Stillwell, the only person who could keep him grounded. It is not the act itself but the chilling detachment and twisted sense of betrayal Homelander feels that makes this moment so powerful. Starr's performance presents a villain so violent that he can do anything calculatedly and without emotion, leaving the viewers disturbed.
5. The “I Can Do Whatever I Want” Speech
![The Boys (2019–present) | Image Source: Amazon Prime Video](https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/af6f6-17388502501857.jpg?w=190 190w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/af6f6-17388502501857.jpg?w=720 720w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/af6f6-17388502501857.jpg?w=640 640w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/af6f6-17388502501857.jpg?w=1045 1045w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/af6f6-17388502501857.jpg?w=1200 1200w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/af6f6-17388502501857.jpg?w=1460 1460w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/af6f6-17388502501857.jpg?w=1600 1600w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/af6f6-17388502501857.jpg 1920w)
The Boys Season 2 Episode 8 offers the most remarkable and unforgettable moment when Homelander. His well-known "I can do whatever I want" speech takes center stage and symbolizes one of the most potent aspects of the entire series, which Antony Starr masterfully executes. Starr portrays the terrifying Homelander side of himself as a person who is so engrossed in his supremacy that he thinks he controls reality as he continues to talk about his unstoppable power.
6. Killing Blindspot
![The Boys (2019–present) | Image Source: Amazon Prime Video](https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/3275b-17388502739209.jpg?w=190 190w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/3275b-17388502739209.jpg?w=720 720w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/3275b-17388502739209.jpg?w=640 640w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/3275b-17388502739209.jpg?w=1045 1045w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/3275b-17388502739209.jpg?w=1200 1200w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/3275b-17388502739209.jpg?w=1460 1460w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/3275b-17388502739209.jpg?w=1600 1600w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/3275b-17388502739209.jpg 1920w)
The brutal murder of Blindspot by Homelander in Season 2, Episode 1 demonstrates Antony Starr's complete mastery in revealing this character's sadistic nature. He appears so placid and unmoved as he disfigures the face of his blind victim and continues to mock and taunt him. All of this just portrays how unrepentant he is as a pain dealer. This moment establishes Homelander as a calculating villain, fully capable of brutally violent action. Starr's own icy, cool demeanor throughout the scene makes the sequence all the more chilling.
7. Doppelgänger Incident
![The Boys (2019–present) | Image Source: Amazon Prime Video](https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/c852e-17388503305821.jpg?w=190 190w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/c852e-17388503305821.jpg?w=720 720w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/c852e-17388503305821.jpg?w=640 640w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/c852e-17388503305821.jpg?w=1045 1045w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/c852e-17388503305821.jpg?w=1200 1200w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/c852e-17388503305821.jpg?w=1460 1460w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/c852e-17388503305821.jpg?w=1600 1600w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/c852e-17388503305821.jpg 1920w)
The Doppelgänger scene in Season 2, Episode 4, is one of the scenes where Starr shows the range of acting. He urges the shapeshifter to transform into Stillwell, showing the inner turmoil of Homelander and revealing an untold side that is incredibly disturbing yet tragically human. Later, when the Doppelgänger tries to get intimate with Homelander, Homelander realizes he doesn't "need anyone" to love him and snaps their neck. Starr's portrayal of twisted emotional manipulation adds layers to the character here—the longing of Homelander, his obsession with control, and his emotional fragility all come to the fore in this moment.
8. Threatening Ryan
![The Boys (2019–present) | Image Source: Amazon Prime Video](https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/962a1-17388503532647.jpg?w=190 190w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/962a1-17388503532647.jpg?w=720 720w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/962a1-17388503532647.jpg?w=640 640w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/962a1-17388503532647.jpg?w=1045 1045w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/962a1-17388503532647.jpg?w=1200 1200w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/962a1-17388503532647.jpg?w=1460 1460w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/962a1-17388503532647.jpg?w=1600 1600w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/962a1-17388503532647.jpg 1920w)
Antony Starr brilliantly acts out the scene of Homelander engaging with his son, Ryan. The scene is both tender and terrifying, for Starr can seamlessly transition between being a loving father and an oppressive abuser. While trying to bond with Ryan, one can sense how slowly a domination need starts unfolding and finally reveals a broken psyche. Starr spectacularly weaves together tenderness and terror as Homelander, who only wants to make his son exactly like him, even at the cost of his psychological well-being, goes overboard.
9. Homelander’s Birthday Outburst
![The Boys (2019–present) | Image Source: Amazon Prime Video](https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/e3db5-17388503787920.jpg?w=190 190w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/e3db5-17388503787920.jpg?w=720 720w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/e3db5-17388503787920.jpg?w=640 640w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/e3db5-17388503787920.jpg?w=1045 1045w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/e3db5-17388503787920.jpg?w=1200 1200w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/e3db5-17388503787920.jpg?w=1460 1460w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/e3db5-17388503787920.jpg?w=1600 1600w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/e3db5-17388503787920.jpg 1920w)
The emotional meltdown Homelander has during his birthday party is a fantastic moment of the series. The masterful performance by Antony Starr reveals the more seldom side of Homelander: a man whose composure and control finally crack under the pressure of public humiliation. As he starts to unravel, Starr captures the complicated mix of rage, frustration, and vulnerability. This breakdown is a turning point and shows just how vulnerable Homelander's psyche really is, even when he's attempting to carry the illusion of being invulnerable.
10. The Battle with Soldier Boy & Butcher
![The Boys (2019–present) | Image Source: Amazon Prime Video](https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/5ca89-17388504025002.jpg?w=190 190w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/5ca89-17388504025002.jpg?w=720 720w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/5ca89-17388504025002.jpg?w=640 640w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/5ca89-17388504025002.jpg?w=1045 1045w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/5ca89-17388504025002.jpg?w=1200 1200w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/5ca89-17388504025002.jpg?w=1460 1460w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/5ca89-17388504025002.jpg?w=1600 1600w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/5ca89-17388504025002.jpg 1920w)
One of the most intense battles in the universe of The Boys was seen between Homelander, Soldier Boy, and Butcher in Season 3, Episode 6. Homelander is incredibly strong, but he also exhibits a great deal of emotional instability, as evidenced by Antony Starr's visceral performance and amazing physicality in this scene. Starr's commanding presence during the fight strongly highlights the inner conflict of the character and desperation over the conservation of his power.
11. The “You Need Me” Speech
![The Boys (2019–present) | Image Source: Amazon Prime Video](https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/7d0dc-17388505097938.jpg?w=190 190w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/7d0dc-17388505097938.jpg?w=720 720w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/7d0dc-17388505097938.jpg?w=640 640w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/7d0dc-17388505097938.jpg?w=1045 1045w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/7d0dc-17388505097938.jpg?w=1200 1200w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/7d0dc-17388505097938.jpg?w=1460 1460w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/7d0dc-17388505097938.jpg?w=1600 1600w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/7d0dc-17388505097938.jpg 1920w)
One of Homelander's most iconic lines is probably "You need me." Antony Starr delivers it right as Homelander speaks it in unsettling tones, subtly mimicking his manipulative underbelly that comes from an obsessive need to be loved. And as he says that the world cannot survive without him, Starr's performance makes Homelander realize that he is indispensable, not just as a hero, but as a great icon. The coldness and conviction in Starr's voice make this speech all the more menacing.
12. Crushing a Protester’s Head
![The Boys (2019–present) | Image Source: Amazon Prime Video](https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/45a42-17388505338243.jpg?w=190 190w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/45a42-17388505338243.jpg?w=720 720w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/45a42-17388505338243.jpg?w=640 640w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/45a42-17388505338243.jpg?w=1045 1045w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/45a42-17388505338243.jpg?w=1200 1200w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/45a42-17388505338243.jpg?w=1460 1460w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/45a42-17388505338243.jpg?w=1600 1600w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/45a42-17388505338243.jpg 1920w)
Homelander's killing of a protester in the streets is one of the most frightening moments showing unchecked power. This violent act is performed by Antony Starr with such skill that it is horrifying. His composure makes the violence even more shocking. This moment really highlights how Homelander has no empathy and how he is getting more and more disconnected from the public's perception of him. This scene really makes Homelander one awful force that can extinguish all who challenge his dictate with no regard for life.
13. Killing Black Noir
![The Boys (2019–present) | Image Source: Amazon Prime Video](https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/f5e05-17388505690256.jpg?w=190 190w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/f5e05-17388505690256.jpg?w=720 720w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/f5e05-17388505690256.jpg?w=640 640w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/f5e05-17388505690256.jpg?w=1045 1045w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/f5e05-17388505690256.jpg?w=1200 1200w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/f5e05-17388505690256.jpg?w=1460 1460w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/f5e05-17388505690256.jpg?w=1600 1600w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/f5e05-17388505690256.jpg 1920w)
One of the most emotionally devastating moments of the series comes in season 3, with Antony Starr bringing Homelander's detachment to life hauntingly. In the killing of Black Noir, Starr does the unthinkable in his role: there's no remorse, no sadness; just cold calculation. That shows the extent to which Homelander has lost all traces of humanity by being ruthless, where he disposes of the closest allies if they no longer fit his plan. Starr's performance elevates the scene, showing the emotional toll that such a betrayal has on Homelander, but also the complete lack of humanity he possesses.
14. The “Liar, Liar” Scene
![The Boys (2019–present) | Image Source: Amazon Prime Video](https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/c065c-17388506568716.jpg?w=190 190w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/c065c-17388506568716.jpg?w=720 720w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/c065c-17388506568716.jpg?w=640 640w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/c065c-17388506568716.jpg?w=1045 1045w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/c065c-17388506568716.jpg?w=1200 1200w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/c065c-17388506568716.jpg?w=1460 1460w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/c065c-17388506568716.jpg?w=1600 1600w, https://static.soapcentral.com/editor/2025/02/c065c-17388506568716.jpg 1920w)
The scene where Homelander confronts Starlight is nothing short of heart-stopping because it drives home his need for sovereignty and dominance. In this case, Anthony Starr's quasi-menacing manner allows Homelander to use Starlight's fragility to his own advantage. With a tease of "Liar, liar," Starr subtly exposes the depths of Homelander's insecurities, the fear that he may lose control of The Seven. The power struggle dramatically shifts in this moment, supported by the weight of manipulating Starlight into submission—Homelander's dark, obsessive need to dominate not just his enemies, but his alleged allies as well.

Homelander's savagery in his intimidating acts towards A-Train and The Deep shows pure dominance. Antony Starr acts so menacingly when turning tables against his fellow teammates. His calm contains a deep well of danger, and the mastery of striking fear within his fellow supes is a testament to his might. On the other hand, Starr effortlessly performs Homelander's god complex when reminding A-Train and The Deep that no one is safe from his wrath, not even those who are close to him. This gives Homelander a position of master manipulation, commanding respect and awe from everyone in the vicinity.

When Queen Maeve tries to bring down Homelander, he responds in the most chilling way. Antony Starr's acting while Homelander laughs at Maeve's attack is sadistic. He enjoys her desperation as he does not have a drop of sympathy in him and has an ego problem. His acting brings out how Homelander believes that he cannot be defeated and has the right to enjoy the pain of those who challenge him. This moment reinforces Homelander’s terrifying nature, as his sadistic joy in the face of pain makes him a formidable and unpredictable villain.
17. Talking to Himself in the Mirror

This moment of vulnerability, where Homelander talks to himself in the mirror, is probably the most introspective and haunting scene of the series. Antony Starr successfully brings out Homelander's inner conflict and fractured mind to viewers, allowing a rare glimpse into the emotional turmoil that drives him. In this moment, he is shown not being able to cope with growing isolation and paranoia as his power is challenged. Here, Starr's portrayal of Homelander is a subtle level of performance, making it believable that the horrifying figure is really an insecure one.

One of the iconic visual elements with which the audience is familiar, and Antony Starr succeeds in delivering the most chilling of gazes, has to do with the "Homelander stare." In some episodes of The Boys, he uses this deep, soul-piercing gaze to convey what's inside the mind of Homelander—that is, the darkness, control, and manipulation. Whether this is a matter of power or control or pure anger, there is always an aura of malice. Starr's ability to say so much with his eyes makes Homelander all the more frightening, amplifying the unsettling nature of the character.

The final scene in Season 3, Episode 8 of the series is a chilling moment with The Boys as Homelander watches his son, Ryan, mirror his psychotic behavior. Antony Starr delivers a chilling smile that gives full expression of Homelander's twisted sense of pride and terror. A triumphant but deeply unsettling grin, it makes one believe Homelander could have found the perfect successor in Ryan. In this scene, Starr perfectly brings out the lack of remorse of the character and his dangerous thought that he is making the future.
