Die Hard helped make Bruce Willis an action icon, but not without cost - permanent hearing loss in one ear at the hands of a loud blank fired too close to him during one of the film's intense gunfight sequences. Later, he confessed that this injury would trouble him long-term but made a joke saying that he was now "better at tuning out."
