Darkest Hour is the story of Winston Churchill's leadership during the early days of the Second World War, in particular, during the Dunkirk evacuation and Churchill's refusal to negotiate with Nazi Germany. In an Oscar-winning performance by Gary Oldman, Churchill shows the determination and political acumen to resist enormous odds set against him. Some elements of Winston Churchill's private life are dramatized, but it is in a historical sense that the film is an authentic view of the moments when Britain was making the major decisions of war.
