The season of love is here and there is romance in the air. The day of love and companionship is eagerly looked forward to by many people and celebrating it right is important. But what if one had to choose for a date from iconic movie characters? There are definitely some not-so-romantic characters that one should not go out with. Here is a fun list of 17 villainous and eccentric movie characters who one should avoid going out with:
1. Voldemort
The one who must not be named, this famous villain from the movie franchise, Harry Potter, has a terrifying presence and only cares about two things – defeating Harry Potter and becoming the ultimate king of dark magic. With countless manipulations and destruction to his name, along with the deaths of many innocents, he is not someone one should go out with on Valentine’s Day (or ever)!
2. Darth Vader
Roaming around on Valentine’s Day with a man who wears a black cape and mask, does not seem like the best idea. Known for his character in the Star Wars franchise, the Big V might have an alluring voice, but his tragic backstory, villainous persona, and trauma over a past love make him someone you cannot have a good time with. After all, one cannot be with someone who is only loyal to the Galactic Empire.
3. Annie Wilkes
Being possessive about your partner is fine but being obsessive is where one draws the line. Known for portraying the psychopathic and harrowing villain in the movie, Misery, Wilkes makes the life of an author into a living nightmare after she locks him in a cabin and forces him to change the ending of his novel. She is, therefore, someone you do not want to go out with on Valentine’s Day.
4. The Joker
Based on the character from DC comics, this enigmatic villain has gone through various changes in persona from the multiple movie versions to TV shows. Sometimes, he is campy and manic and other times he has a darker personality beneath. One thing remains common though, he might flirt with you, but his only goal is to destroy Batman and therefore, he is not the perfect partner for Valentine’s Day.
5. Anton Chigurh
Going out with a malevolent hitman who seeks pleasure in torture is probably not the best idea for Valentine’s Day. Famous for his chilling and inhuman villainous role in the movie, No Country for Old Men, Chigurh is at the top of the list of the most deadly villains in cinema. As a cartel hitman who uses a bolt pistol to kill people like cattle, this psychopathic and sadistic personality is a big no on the day of romance.
6. Willy Wonka
While he is the owner of a massive chocolate factory, Wonka has a penchant for the colour purple and has an eccentric persona that does not mind hurting naughty children. Further, he seems to have a dark past and has exaggerated body movements and a face that feels plastered. From the movie, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, he is a quirky character and might not be the best option for a Valentine’s Day date.
7. Hans Gruber
Even though this charismatic villain from the movie, Die Hard, is extremely charismatic and cultured. He is still terrifyingly conniving and only cares about his mission. This character from Die Hard does not have emotions and is married to his cause. Therefore, he is not the perfect choice to spend time with on Valentine’s Day.
8. Buzz Lightyear
No one wants to go out on a date with someone who only talks about himself and always wears an astronaut suit. This heroic spaceman from the movie, Toy Story, Buzz Lightyear seems to have no situational awareness and often has to be saved. He does not have a sharp brain and is therefore one of those quirky people you should stay away from on Valentine’s Day.
9. Hannibal Lecter
There can be nothing worse than going out on a dinner date with a person who likes to have a liver with some fava beans and Chianti. Famous for his genius yet cannibalistic portrayal of a forensic psychiatrist in the movie, The Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal is someone you should be miles away from this Valentine’s Day, not only does he relish human flesh, but his piercing looks into one’s soul are extremely uncomfortable.
10. Norman Bates
Going out with a psychopathic killer who has mommy issues is the worst decision one could make on Valentine’s Day. Not only does Bates kill, but he adopts his mother’s avatar and mimics her in the movie, Psycho. He is even more dangerous because he looks meek and humble, but has a dark persona. Granted he is handsome, but he is one of the most famous villains in cinematic history for a reason.
11. T-1000
With a steely exterior and almost no expressions other than that of vengeance, T-1000 is one character you should not spend your Valentine’s Day with. This character from the movie, The Terminator, is known for his cold gaze and slinky, shape-changing persona, this advanced machine killer does not stop in front of any obstacle if it wants to annihilate someone.
12. Loki
Loki is one villain who is bitter and scheming yet redeems himself into a witty and comic character. Known for his appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movies and based on the character from Marvel comics, this God of Mischief is too much trouble on Valentine’s Day. There is no point in spending romantic time with him as he only cares about one- upping his brother and ruling the world.
13. Bellatrix Lestrange
Known for her character in the Harry Potter franchise, Bellatrix is someone who is only loyal to Voldemort and is therefore an instant no for Valentine's Day. Not only does she have a sadistic personality but she has killed likeable characters in her trail of destruction. Even though she has an enigmatic persona, one should stay away from her on Valentine’s Day.
14. Amon Goth
There is nothing romantic about a person who relishes mass murder and has outdated views about superiority. Known for his inhuman and unflinching portrayal in the movie, Schindler’s List, Goth is the embodiment of the evil of Nazi Germany and his presence is both terrifying and threatening. He is, therefore, not someone you want to go out with on Valentine’s Day.
15. Michael Myers
Known for being the famous serial killer from the movie, Halloween, Myers has a traumatic past where he killed his own sister and was committed to a sanitorium, from which he escaped and began his murder spree again. The character even looks terrifying with his unsettling mask and a knife in hand. He is, therefore, not someone you want to go out with.
16. Jack Torrance
Going out with Jack does not seem like a good idea for Valentine’s Day as he is easily swayed by external forces and loses his grip on reality. This character from the movie, The Shining, is volatile, insane, murderous, and prone to cheat. Therefore, he is definitely a big no for the occasion. His menacing smile does not help further.
17. Nurse Ratched
Known for her sadistic personality in the movie, One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest, nurse Mildred Ratched is the head of administration at a psychiatric hospital and instead of displaying empathy, treats her patients with utmost cruelty. Cold-hearted, stern, passive-aggressive, and hateful, this is one character who is inept for romance and would be a terrible choice for Valentine’s Day.
