This is Charlize Theron commanding a company of immortal mercenaries and mixing action themes with loyalty and redemption. Shot by Gina Prince-Bythewood, diverse characters bring with them an involving storyline. While Theron can be counted as the backbone playing the exhausted and yet tough character Andy, breakout newcomer KiKi Layne introduces a lot of fresh energy, and action brutality and tenderness blend as all these characters can't lose their humanity while being immortal. The Old Guard revitalized the superhero genre, proving that streaming platforms could deliver blockbuster-quality films.
