Scarlett Johansson plays Lucy, a woman transformed into a superhuman in the sci-fi thriller from Luc Besson. After a drug accident, she unlocks the full potential of her brain and develops godlike abilities. Johansson transforms from vulnerable to all-powerful in an incredibly captivating manner, while the film combines action and philosophy in such a way that viewers remain glued to their seats. The stairwell fight and surreal finale are also memorable. Though divisive, Lucy proved women-led action films could dominate global box offices, sparking debates about science and storytelling. It further cemented Johansson’s status as a versatile action star.
