Certain on-screen couples have been so clingy that they have annoyed the audiences. Despite having a great chemistry, they have led to each other's downfall because of their dependence and irrational love expectations from each other. Whether it is for each other's company or for saving each other's life, they have been an absolute wreck. Here is the list of 15 on-screen couples who are too clingy for their own good.

The popular comedy sitcom - Modern Family has given us many great couples, but one of them is Haley and Dylan. Both of them are over-dependent on each other, which has hindered their growth socially. They have been dating since high school and, despite various breakups, always end up finding their way towards each other. Now, they have found comfort in each other, but their refusal to leave each other and go out in the world and experience life has really annoyed the audience.

The musical Mamma Mia! is about Sophia getting married, and as she has no clue who her dad is, she invites three prospective people to find out. This musical, starring Meryl Streep, is quite popular and loved. But the lovely couple who is getting married – Sophia and Sky, aren't exactly perfect. Both have different goals in life but fail to realize them until at the altar. And when they break off the wedding finally at the altar, instead of going their separate ways, they still end up together, although not married. Their refusal to grow out of their clingy love isn't particularly enjoyed by the audience.

Gilmore Girls is a comfort series about a mother and a daughter trying to navigate life in the small town of Starshollow. Rory, the intelligent and smart protagonist of the story, is perhaps not as smart about what to do when it comes to her love life. She wasn't able to move on from her first boyfriend – Dean. Their relationship, although healthy at first, turned into an over-dependent, jealous, and insecure situation. They have ended up hurting a lot of people because of their gravitating nature, where they always find each other at the first sign of any adversary.

Based on a book by Jenny Han, To All the Boys I've Loved Before is about a girl, Lara Jean, who had written five letters to her five crushes through various phases of her life. After a fight with her sister, who sends out these letters, chaos takes place. Peter is charismatic and popular and ensures that he helps Lara Jean when she needs it, but the relationship is often filled with insecurities and misunderstandings. There is no balance, too. Either they are totally in love or totally against each other, which isn't particularly liked by the audience.

Gone with the Wind is an iconic movie. It has brought us Scarlet and Rhett. While Scarlet is ambitious, fierce, and determined, Rhett is cynical and opportunistic. They work together, but their relationship is constantly under tension. They find themselves victims of misunderstandings because of their inability to communicate with each other and have destroyed a lot of lives because of their relationship.

Hunger Games is a dystopian movie based on a book by Suzanne Collins. The book has given us the couple - Katniss Everdeen and Peter Mellark. Both found each other when they were selected for the deathly Hunger Games. Through the common goal of surviving, they found each other and managed to change the history of the Hunger Games by becoming winners with their clingy love. Their instinct to protect each other first has caused the government a lot of problems and has even brought each other suffering and grief, but at the end of it all, it cannot be denied that their love is powerful.

The classic movie Grease has given us the couple – Sandy and Danny. They Are a classic example of an on-and-off-again couple. They constantly need reassurance, and their efforts to impress each other are very off-putting. They are jealous and have very emotional overreactions to each other. Their over-reliance on each other has posed a difficulty in letting each other go as they always end up finding their way back.

There hasn't been a more toxic couple than – Elena and Damon in The Vampire Diaries. There is no denying that their chemistry is sensational, but their relationship is full of moral and emotional complexities. Although they are always ready to sacrifice their own self for each other, their emotional dependency on each other has resulted in a lot of dramatic situations. Firstly, they are opposites of each other. While Elena has a strong moral compass, Damon is impulsive. Because of this, they find themselves amidst constant fights and tragedies.

Sheldon can be quite relentless, and Amy always finds a way to compromise to please Sheldon. In the end, when Amy is finally at the brink of her patience and decides to leave Sheldon, they still end up back together, showing just how clingy they can be.

They were so clingy seconds after meeting that they were ready to give up their friends and family for each other. They were very impulsive while making decisions regarding each other, and their obsession with being together brought about their tragic deaths.

Rachel and Ross’s relationship, from friends, can be defined by the famous catchphrase from the show – ‘we were on a break.’ They were another couple who had a severe on-again, off-again pattern. They were highly emotionally dependent on each other, especially for validation. Rachel was jealous, while Ross was possessive. So much so that their inability to function without each other leads to Ross taking Rachel’s name at the altar while marrying Emily.

The Notebook is an iconic movie, but on second thought, the lead couple - Allie and Noah, are not that much of an idealistic couple. Even seven years after breaking up, they couldn't get over each other. They had an obsessive need to be together, even if ended up hurting other people. Allie sacrificed her future and career to be with Noah, while Noah sacrificed seven years of his life to wait for her. They are one couple who were even clingy in old age. Allie was ill, so Noah got admitted to her hospital, and they broke all limits of clinginess when they even died together.

Bella was human, while Edward was a vampire. This was the first sign that they shouldn't be together. But Bella and Edward had a constant need to defy fate. Just after one year of meeting each other, their emotional dependency on each other was too much. They had a concept of ‘forever’ in their minds, and for that, they sacrificed their personal growth. They cannot function without each other, and Edward's protective instincts towards Bella were almost an obsession. They knew that their love was self-destructive, yet they refused to part ways.

Jack and Rose from Titanic were a tragic couple. Although short-lived, their relationship was iconic. They were such a clingy couple that their clinginess transcended emotions into being physically clingy during dangerous, life-threatening situations. When the Titanic sank, they held on to each other for survival, and Jack made Rose climb a door to stay alive. He could have gone and found something for himself to survive, too, but he decided to be clingy and hold onto Rose, leading to his death.
