Sam’s death in I Am Legend was one of the most emotional scenes in the film. Sam, Robert Neville’s loyal dog, was bitten by an infected dog during an ambush. Neville desperately tried to save her by injecting her with a serum but she succumbed to the infection. When Sam began to turn Neville tearfully strangled her to prevent her from attacking him. The moment was devastating because Sam was Neville’s only companion in a desolate world and her death showed the emotional isolation and loss experienced in the fight for survival.
