Barbara’s death in Night of the Living Dead (1968) was a shocking moment. She spent much of the film in a state of fear and helplessness, traumatized by the zombie outbreak. In the climactic scene, Barbara was pulled out of the house by a horde of zombies, including her reanimated brother Johnny. Her inability to fight back and her tragic end showed the bleak and hopeless nature of the story. Barbara’s death remains one of the most iconic moments in zombie cinema.
