The Oscar Awards for 2025 have recently taken place, giving us this year's best in cinema. Sean Baker, with his movie Anora, won 4 awards while Emilia Perez had the most nominations.

Like Zoe Saldana’s Emilia Perez, many other movies were among the most nominated movies during their respective ceremonies. Movies like Dancing With the Wolves, Gladiator, Schindler’s List, and several others have been nominated in various categories but did not win those categories.

In this article, we have listed 10 movies that received the most Oscar nominations.

Elia Kazan’s On The Waterfront stars Marlon Brando as Terry Malloy, a longshoreman. The mega hit movie depicts the union violence and corruption of the waterfronts of New Jersey.

The film significantly portrays the challenges of the dock workers with corruption and extortion. It also shows us how the union of workers daringly stood up to the corrupt and powerful people and created a better environment for their work.


2) Ben-Hur- 12 Oscar nominations

The 1959 religious drama Ben-Hur was adapted from Lew Wallace’s novel Ben- Hur: A Tale of the Christ. The film is set in 1 BC in Jerusalem and tells the story of a wealthy Jewish prince, Judah Ben-Hur (Charlton Heston).

The movie shows how Judah was betrayed by his friend Messala and falsely accused of treason and sent to hard labor. While facing his challenging days, Judah unknowingly meets Jesus Christ, which he finds out later when he encounters his crucifixion.

The movie was one of the highest-grossing movies and won 11 out of the 12 Oscars it was nominated for.


3) Emilia Perez- 13 Oscar nominations

Directed by Jacques Audiard, Emilia Perez tells the story of a Mexican cartel leader, Juan Del Monte, played by Karla Sofia Gascon, who undergoes gender-affirming surgery with the help of Zoe Saldana’s Rita.

She tries to live a new life away from all her criminal past but fails as, by one way or the other, her past catches up to her.


4) The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring- 13 Oscar nominations

The first in the trilogy of Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings movies, the film follows the events of the first book of J.R.R Tolkein’s novel series of the same name.

In this film, we get the first glimpse of Middle-Earth. Starting from Frodo taking the responsibility to the formation of the fellowship, we see the beginning of their journey through the dangerous places like the mines of Moria.

The film is the most nominated among the three films, however, the third film won all the 11 awards it was nominated for, while this movie won 4.


5) Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?- 13 Oscar nominations

Mike Nichols’s film Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? follows Richard Burton’s George and his wife, Elizabeth Taylor’s Martha, who have invited their new friends Nick and Honey for a late-night gathering.

The gathering turns awkward as the couple keeps on fighting with each other in front of their guests. While heavily drunk, the guests and hosts reveal personal details about their lives, which entangles everyone in the weird night gathering.

The film won five Oscars out of the 13 it was nominated for.


6) From Here to Eternity- 13 Oscar nominations

Winning 8 Oscars out of the 13 nominations, From Here to Eternity tells the story of the challenges faced by three American soldiers in Hawaii before the Pearl Harbour attack.

It is adapted from James Jones’s book and directed by Fred Zinnemenn.


7) Oppenheimer- 13 Oscar nominations

Another of Christopher Nolan’s masterpieces, Oppenheimer, was a huge global hit, winning 7 out of the 13 Oscar nominations.

The film follows the early life of J. Robert Oppenheimer, played by Cillian Murphy, to the creation of the atomic bomb and the effect it had on the people who helped create it after it was dropped on two cities in Japan. It shows us how it affected the morals of Oppenheimer as he saw himself as the reason why so many people in Japan lost their lives.


8) Gone with the Wind- 13 Oscar nominations

Receiving 10 awards out of the 13 Oscar nominations, Gone With the Wind is a well-liked movie.

Based on Margaret Mitchell’s novel, the film focuses on the story of Vivien Leigh’s Scarlett O’Hara and her pursuit of love and the challenges she and her family face during and after the Civil War in America.


9) All About Eve- 14 Oscar nominations

All About Eve won six awards out of the 14 nominations and stars Bette Davis and Anne Baxter.

It tells the story of an aging Broadway star, Margo Channing, whose personal and professional life is threatened because of a young fan, Eve Harrington, played by Anne Baxter.


10) Titanic- 14 Oscar nominations

Out of the 14 nominations, Titanic received 11 Oscar awards. James Cameron’s epic romantic film starring Kate Winslet as Rose and Leonardo DiCaprio as Jack follows their love story and the tragedy that engulfs them.

DiCaprio’s Jack meets Winslet’s Rose aboard the ship Titanic, and their epic love story starts from there. However, as the ship hits an iceberg, it begins to sink, taking many lives with it, including one of the lovers, making it a tragic love story.


Apart from these movies, many other films received nominations, such as La La Land, which received 14 nominations, and Shape of Water and Forrest Gump, which got 13 nominations each.
