Captain Raymond Holt isn’t just the boss of Brooklyn Nine-Nine. He’s one of the most legendary sitcom characters of all time. Thanks to Andre Braugher’s pitch-perfect performance.

Holt is the ultimate mix of strict professionalism and out of the blue weirdness. And that surely makes him a treat to watch.

What makes him so ridiculously funny is the way he stays completely serious while doing the most outrageous things. He could be competing on the silliest things, pretending to be straight and saying the most ridiculous things, or using slang like an alien who just learned English, his comedic timing is just plain flawless.

Perhaps, what makes him one of the most beloved characters on TV, is his witty one-liners, savage replies, and absolute straight faced delivery. He has definitely given us some of Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s best moments.

So, let’s get right into the ten greatest Holt scenes that prove exactly why he’s a fan favorite.

1) Raymond Holt’s unexpected outburst of excitement

This one easily ranks among the best, thanks to one of Holt’s most iconic and meme-worthy moments. When Amy strolls in a single minute late, the team jumps into a wild guessing game about what must have delayed her.

Holt steals the show with his completely left-field guess:

“I’d say she’s… in line at the bank. This is fun!”

Turns out, he’s spot on. And when Amy confirms it, Holt claps, pumps his fist, and lets out an earth-shattering “Hot damn!”

For a guy who usually reacts to both joy and tragedy with the same deadpan delivery, this unexpected outburst is comedy gold. And the fact that it’s all over something as mundane as waiting at the bank makes it even funnier.

2) The door-holding bellowing "BOOOOOOOOONEEEE!" moment

Every Brooklyn 99 fan knows how much Holt hates the word "bone". In Season 4, Episode 8, titled Skyfire Cycle, when Rosa mentions the word to him, he loses his cool and says,

"How dare you, Detective Diaz? I am your superior officer. "
BONE!"
"What happens in my bedroom, Detective, is none of your business."

All of this in an interval of a few minutes. Oh, and who can forget the door-holding bellowing, "BOOOOOOOOONEEEE!"

This moment became one of Brooklyn Nine-Nine's most hilarious, and fans across the globe turned "BONE!" into a catchphrase.

3) Raymond Holt has a "female wife"

We remember Captain Holt as the abolute legendary and unapologetic gay icon. In one of the episodes, when he has to go undercover as a straight man, he leaves us in splits.

Holt’s grasp on heterosexuality is… questionable at best, and his attempts to sound natural lead to some of the most ridiculously funny moments in the show.

He uses phrases like “female wife", heavy breasts” and how can we forget the iconic,

“There’s nothing more intoxicating than the clear absence of a p*nis."

What makes these lines even better is Andre Braugher’s impeccable, straight-faced delivery.

4) Raymond Holt loves Kwazy Kupcakes

Captain Raymond Holt quietly laughing to himself over a mobile game such as "Kwazy Kupcakes" is absolutely funny. But it is his descent into uncontrolled giggles that cements this scene's legendary status.

Captain Holt comes around to a game that Gina was obsessed with. Despite his derisive comments, he gets quite addicted to it. His sudden obsession with Kwazy Cupcakes was so unexpected, and absolutely hilarious.

His addiction took him completely out of character. The best part Holt was him abandoning proper sentence structure just to say the game’s name, which is pretty unusual for him.

Considering he initially mocked Gina for playing Kwazy Cupcakes, seeing him fall even deeper into the obsession was pure poetic justice.

5) Raymond Holt's most dramatic celebration

Raymond Holt is a treat to watch. In Season 4, Episode 6, Monster in the Closet, Rosa and Pimento decide to tie the knot. Holt has been assigned to take care of the balloons. And as expected, he treats this task with utmost seriousness.

The result is an intricate, carefully crafted balloon arch that, unfortunately, Amy finds hideous. And the dramatic reaction that follows is nothing but hilarious. Without breaking eye contact, he silently pops each balloon, one by one, in the most passive-aggressive way possible.

But then, Rosa thinks it's "magnificent". Holt, dramatically and triumphantly yells, "VINDICATION!"

Well, the sweet taste of vindication, indeed.

6) Raymond Hold loves Greek Mythology and equally hates Wuntch

Holt has a talent for insults, and when it comes to Wuntch, his knowledge of Greek mythology makes his burns even sharper. In Season 2, his longtime rival arrives at the precinct for an evaluation, catching him by surprise.

With his signature deadpan delivery, Holt points out:

"If you're here, who's guarding Hades?"

Raymond Holt basically implicates she is Cerberus, the three-headed hellhound. Classic Holt, at his finest.

7) Raymond Holt's interesting choice of T-shirts

This scene has a separate fanbase. It's the time Raymond Holt impulsively bought novelty T-shirts during a rough patch. It’s a rare moment of weakness, but in true Holt fashion, he wears them with absolute seriousness, as if nothing is out of the ordinary.

The sight of him in a ridiculous graphic tee is hilarious, but what makes it even funnier is his complete refusal to acknowledge just how absurd it is.

When Jake asks,

"Is the pineapple the slut, or is it calling someone else a slut?"

Holt replies,

"Clearly the pineapple is the slut."

8) Raymond Holt's hula hooping photos

Raymond Holt doesn’t usually indulge in gossip, but when he does, he makes it absolutely torturous. One of his most legendary moments comes when he casually drops the bombshell that he knows an incredible piece of gossip, one that's so juicy, so scandalous, that it could shake Jake to his core.

But the catch is he can’t share it. Ever.

Watching Jake spiral into desperation, begging for even the tiniest hint is simply hilarious. Holt, of course, remains completely unfazed, reveling in his power.

“I was hula hooping. Kevin and I attend a class for fitness and for fun. I’ve mastered all the moves: the pizza toss, tornado, scorpion, the oopsie doodle.”

When Jake asks why Holt is disclosing such sensitive information about himself to him, Holt replies:

"Because no one will ever believe you."

And then he deletes the photos. Pure evil. But, fun.

9) The ultimate dance showdown

Holt isn’t exactly known for being the life of the party, but when the moment calls for it, he knows how to make an impact.

In one unforgettable scene, he manages to defuse a tense situation not with words or force, but with the most robotic, rigid dance moves ever witnessed.

Raymond Holt removes his cap and with zero emotion on his face and perfect precision, he awkwardly grooves to the music, completely stealing the spotlight.

10) Raymond Holt immediately realizes it's not Cheddar

In Season 5, Episode 4, in the fifth annual Halloween Heist, nobody's afraid to pull off elaborate, borderline illegal schemes. And that includes using doppelgängers.

Holt sees right through the prank immediately and delivers one of the most unforgettable lines in the show:

“You’re not Cheddar. You’re just some common b*tch.”

Oh, and Raymond Holt never swears. But when it comes to Cheddar, he turns into John Wick. However, in this rare instance, he’s not actually being rude. He’s just stating a fact. The imposter dog is, quite literally, a female dog.

And well, that's not surprising because that's Holt being Holt. Unintentionally hilarious, always.
