Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy gave us numerous Merry and Pippin moments. The Hobbit duo showed many facets of their characters, from making us laugh with their jokes and comments to showing us their brave sides by participating in several battles. Whether they were stealing carrots or helping Frodo get away from Shire, Merry, and Pippin were an integral part of the films.

1) Stealing Gandalf's Fireworks in The Lord of the Rings

In the first The Lord of the Rings movie, the viewers are first introduced to the mischievous duo named Merry ( Dominic Monaghan) and Pippin ( Billy Boyd). As the Shire comes together to celebrate Bilbo’s birthday, Gandalf, the grey wizard, also arrives and brings several types of fireworks. Merry and Pippin secretly steal a huge piece of fireworks and set it off.
However, they get caught and are punished by Gandalf to do the dishes. Through this scene, Merry and Pippin are introduced to the audience as playful and mischievous characters.
2) Eavesdropping at the Council of Elrond

In the first The Lord of the Rings movie, the fellowship is created in the council of Elrond as Frodo volunteers to take the ring and destroy it. Several members volunteer to go with Frodo to help him finish the job.
In the midst of that, two other hobbits (Merry and Pippin), who were hiding behind a pillar and eavesdropping on their conversations, also come forth and volunteer. Even though they are not aware of the danger they might encounter, they still choose to stand by their friends, showing their love and loyalty.
3) Merry helped Eowyn kill the Nazgul

In the last The Lord of the Rings movie, the friends are separated. Merry fights in the battle of Pelennor Fields and even plays a crucial role in killing the witch king Nazgul. As the Nazgul is about to kill Eowyn, Merry stabs him in his leg, which gives Eowyn a chance to run her sword through his face and kill him.
This also marks Glorfindel’s prophecy, who predicted that Nazgul cannot be killed by a mortal man. Therefore, he was killed by a woman and a hobbit.
4) Pippin joined Aragorn in his attack against the gates of Mordor

There were numerous moments when Merry and Pippin showed their courage. Pippin joining Aragorn in his fight against the gates of Mordor is one of many other incidents.
In the last part of The Lord of the Rings, soldiers from Gondor and Rohan come together to fight the great battle at the gates of Mordor. From Legolas and Gimli to Gandalf the white and Eomer, everyone is gathered. Amongst them, the viewers can also see a hobbit (Pippin) charging with his sword, displaying his strength and bravery.
5) Stay by Boromir’s side in leading Saruman’s Orcs away from Frodo

In the first The Lord of the Rings movie, Merry and Pippin stand by Boromir’s side as he fights and tries to distract the Uruk-hai and lead them away from Frodo. Boromir asks them to run away, but the Hobbits choose to fight with him so that Frodo can have a safe journey ahead.
This scene shows how far can Merry and Pippin go to save their friends who are already treading on a dangerous path.
6) Jump on the troll that stabbed Frodo

Merry and Pippin’s friendship moments with Frodo can be seen in all three movies of The Lord of the Rings.
In the Mines of Moria, the Fellowship is attacked by giant trolls and orcs. During the fight, a giant troll stabs Frodo. Without caring about their safety, Merry and Pippin quickly jump on the troll to save Frodo, showing their loyalty toward Frodo.
7) Convinced Treebeard to attack Saruman

In the second The Lord of the Rings movie, Merry and Pippin convince Treebeard and the peace-loving Ents to join the fight against Saruman. They show them the destruction that Saruman is causing to the environment, which convinces the Ents to join the fight.
In this way, they play a crucial role in destroying Saruman’s forces.
8) Welcome to Isengard, my lords!

In one of the funniest moments, Merry and Pippin greet Gandalf and a part of Fellowship at the gate of Isengard. This moment comes right after the battle of the Helm’s Deep and provides a lighter scene after an intense battle. It also shows the resilience of Merry and Pippin as they appear to be the same joyful hobbits, even after experiencing so many hardships.
9) Left a trail when they were kidnapped by Uruk-hai

In the second The Lord of the Rings movie, Merry and Pippin get kidnapped by the Uruk-hai after Boromir’s death. While they are taken to Isengard, Merry gets the idea of leaving a trail for their friends to find them. His plan works as Aragorn finds the brooch that he had left, which helps him, Legolas, and Gimli to track them.
This shows the ability of the hobbits’ who don’t panic in the face of adversity and always find a way to survive.
10) Merry and Pippin are reunited after the battle of the Pelennor fields

One of the most emotional moments is when the duo are reunited after the battle of Pelennor Fields. Throughout the three movies of The Lord of the Rings, Merry, and Pippin have shown many sides of their character.
In this scene, Pippin looks for Merry and finds him in a weakened state after he attacks the Nazgul. In a heartfelt moment, Merry says, “I knew you would find me!” to Pippin. This is one of the most heartwarming and best scenes of Merry and Pippin.
