Brief Character History

Sarah is the biological child of Maggie Horton. Originally, Maggie had decided to be a surrogate mother and was to give Sarah to her biological father and his wife when she was born, but she decided to keep the baby. This prompted Evan Whyland to come forth as the father and demand the baby, but when the truth was uncovered that his wife was really dead, Maggie and Mickey won custody. Evan wasn't ready to give up though, and while driving Maggie around one night, the car crashed (turned out to be Stefano DiMera's work), and while Maggie survived, Evan died. This left Sarah to be raised by Mickey and Maggie, along with Melissa Philips Anderson (later Horton), who they adopted after her mother, Linda, virtually abandoned her. Later, Sarah got a chance to meet Janice, who was almost her adoptive sister, if her mother hadn't reclaimed her. Janice soon died, and her other sister, Melissa, soon got involved with Jack Deveraux, who ran against Mickey for political office. Unfortunately, Sarah was hit by a car that was driven by a drunken Eve Donovan. Luckily, Sarah survived, and her accident also garnered support for Mickey, but Mike's role in an assisted suicide lost it for him.

After losing the election, Mickey spent more and more time at his new office, and less and less time with Maggie. Around this time, Maggie began having an affair with Neil Curtis, whom she had recently learned was actually Sarah's father. Sarah found the two of them in bed together one day and, shattered, told Mickey. Mickey initially wanted a divorce, but the two eventually worked out their problems. Shortly thereafter, Sarah, who was growing increasingly unhappy at the Horton house, left Salem, and moved to Nashville to be with her adoptive sister, Melissa.

Although not shown on-screen, Sarah returned to Salem in 2010 for Mickey's funeral.
