Tate just let a big secret slip on Days of our Lives when he revealed to Holly that Eric was the drunk driver who killed her father before she was ever born.
A trip back in time on Days of our Lives
In 2015, Eric and Nicole nearly confessed their love for one another when they were trapped together in a sweltering hot air duct. After they were rescued, Nicole reunited with her boyfriend at the time, Daniel Jonas.
Nicole and Daniel soon became engaged and celebrated on New Year's Eve. Eric was at the same New Year's Eve party, and his jealousy over Nicole and Daniel's happiness drove him to drown his sorrows in a bottle of booze. The inebriated Eric then got behind the wheel of a car.
Before he knew it, Eric found himself in a collision with two cars. One was driven by Jennifer Horton, and Brady was driving the other car, with Daniel in the passenger seat. Jennifer suffered a back injury that led her to a pill addiction, while Daniel was declared brain dead. Eric and Brady both had heart damage, so Daniel's mother, Maggie, made the gut-wrenching decision to donate her son's heart to Brady.
Thankfully, medication helped Eric's heart physically, but emotionally, he was broken, as he had killed his friend and nearly killed his brother. Eric eventually served time for killing Daniel.
How Holly came to be
Nicole was devastated after losing her fiancé, but her old friend Chloe was determined to give Nicole one last gift. After Chloe found herself pregnant in 2016, she originally believed that Deimos Kiriakis was the father as a result of a one-night stand. However, viewers soon learned the truth through a series of flashbacks.
Before Daniel died, he and Nicole had undergone an in vitro fertilization (IVF) procedure, with Chloe set to carry the child as their surrogate. Their first attempt at pregnancy didn't take, but after Daniel died, Chloe chose to try again without telling Nicole. However, she thought that attempt had failed, as well. After a paternity test proved Deimos was not the dad, Chloe realized she was pregnant with Nicole and Daniel's child. Months later, Nicole helped Chloe deliver Holly in a remote cabin, but Chloe fell into a coma. Chloe had not yet told Nicole that Holly was hers but revealed the truth after she woke.

Holly quickly grew up through the magic of SORAS, knowing her dad had been killed by a drunk driver. Now, she knows that Eric, the man she has thought of as a father, was the man who killed Daniel. Is Holly and Eric's relationship ruined forever, or can Eric get Holly to forgive him?
