What we know about Alison Sweeney's return to Days of our Lives

After nearly more than two years away from the Salem scene, Alison Sweeney will make her Days of our Lives comeback in 2025 for a story that's been brewing for decades.

As far as fans know, Samantha Gene Brady has been going it on her own in Europe since nearly marrying Lucas again in 2022. Sami thought she finally had her first love back in her life but left Lucas at the alter after learning that he was the one who had her kidnapped.

Of course, Lucas claimed he had a good reason for having a man hold Sami hostage for months. He wanted to be her hero so she would fall in love with him again, and it almost worked. Too bad the truth of his actions was revealed.

That prompted Sami to move back to Europe, leaving both EJ and Lucas behind. While Lucas ended up behind bars, EJ moved on with his life and married Nicole. Now, he is once again flirting with Sami's sister, Belle, but when Sami does return, there will be hell to pay.

When news of Sami's return broke in August of 2024, Sweeney hinted at a spectacular story that surprised even her.

"I remembered Sami’s grand exit storming out of the DiMera mansion," Sweeney told TV Insider at the time. "I was interested to hear how and why they were bringing Sami back to town. With Sami it could be anything."

When Sweeney finally learned what the writers had planned, she was definitely intrigued.

"Well, it was definitely an unexpected storyline they pitched me," she said. "I have to tell you, of all the ideas, I was pretty shocked."

According to the big DAYS video preview released in November, Sami's son, Johnny, will learn that his conception was a product of rape. When Johnny hears that EJ raped Sami all those years ago, he will be devastated.

Sami will have to explain what really happened that fateful night so that it doesn't ruin her son's relationship with his father, EJ. However, EJ will also be shot, which can take this story in a whole other direction.
