Gabi was sitting in her hospital room, reading a magazine, when Stefan walked in with a bouquet of flowers. “What are you doing here?” Gabi asked. “I hate how we left things after you got hurt. I’m so, so sorry that we fought,” Stefan said as he took Gabi’s hand. “Really? Seems to me you were itching for a fight. I mean, why else would you have told me that you were ready to get into bed with Ava. Again,” Gabi said. Stefan stressed that Ava had been a mistake.
“Risking our entire marriage for someone I didn’t care about who was completely meaningless,” Stefan said. Stefan caressed Gabi’s face, and he told her that he loved her. Stefan asked Gabi to take him back. “So, Ava really doesn’t mean anything to you?” Gabi asked. “No. Not at all,” Stefan said. Gabi asked about Ava’s job, and Stefan confirmed that he had already fired Ava. “I don’t know why I hired her at all when I can’t stand the sight of her,” Stefan said. Stefan told Gabi that the only thing that mattered to him was Gabi.
Rafe was walking down the hospital hallway with his I.V. stand when he called Jada to ask her to pick him up. “Kayla gave me the all clear. I’m just waiting for my walking papers,” Rafe said. After Rafe talked to Jada, he went to visit Gabi. Rafe woke Gabi from her dream about Stefan. After a moment of disorientation, Gabi smiled when she saw her brother. Rafe asked about Gabi’s dream, but she shrugged and changed the subject to Rafe’s health.
“I’m feeling lucky, grateful, relieved to be healthy and strong,” Rafe said. Rafe told Gabi that he was scheduled to be released from the hospital. “That is amazing!” Gabi said. “How are you?” Rafe asked. Gabi said she was okay. “I feel like such a fool. My God, I can’t believe I hired that homicidal maniac as my assistant,” Gabi lamented. Rafe assured Gabi that Connie had been an accomplished liar who was now locked up in Bayview.

“She’s not going to hurt anybody else. Including Stefan,” Rafe said. “What about Stefan? Why did you just bring him up?” Gabi asked. When Rafe noted that Connie had also hurt Stefan, Gabi said she did not care about Stefan. “Really?” Rafe said. Rafe noted that Jada had told him about the situation between Gabi and Stefan. Gabi reminded Rafe that she had warned him about Ava. With a shrug, Rafe noted that his relationship with Ava had ended because he had cheated on her.
“But man, did she ever get back at you. Setting you up as a dirty cop, trying to ruin your career, your reputation? I’d say she went a little overboard. Don’t you think?” Gabi said. “Maybe a little,” Rafe admitted. Gabi argued that Ava had instead decided to ruin Gabi’s life. “Can you honestly say that she’s ruined your life?” Rafe countered. When Gabi argued that her marriage was over, Rafe pointed out that it did not need to be over.
“I understand that Stefan hurt you, okay? I get it. And I am not making light of that. But when you came back, you were so in love, and you were so happy. Don’t you think that at some point, you could forgive him?” Rafe asked. When Rafe teased Gabi about her temper, she was incensed. “All I’m saying is I just, I don’t want you to make some drastic decision that you can’t take back,” Rafe said. Rafe noted that Gabi and Stefan were good together.
“Do you, in your heart, really think that your marriage is over?” Rafe asked. Rafe reminded Gabi that she had spent years apart from Stefan when she had believed he'd been dead. “And maybe I do need to remind you that when you were able to find each other again, you were so damn happy. Are you going to let this one mistake ruin everything?” Rafe said. “It was a damn big mistake,” Gabi countered. Rafe noted that it was not his business, but he believed that Gabi and Stefan could get past their current situation. With a sigh, Gabi confessed that the situation was complicated because she had slept with E.J. to hurt Stefan.
“There is hurt, and there is angry, and then there is completely insane. You hate E.J. He sent you to prison. Why in God’s name would you sleep with him?” Rafe asked. Gabi explained what had happened. “And you listened to [Connie]?” Rafe said. Gabi yelled that it had seemed like good advice at the time. Rafe groaned. Gabi explained that she had been obsessed with the idea of Stefan’s affair, and she had wanted to do something to forget it. Rafe asked Gabi if her tryst with E.J. had helped her move on.
“Honestly, no. No matter what I do, I don’t think I’ll ever be able to stop picturing Stefan having sex with that woman,” Gabi admitted. Gabi changed the subject to Rafe’s release, and his phone beeped. “[My ride] is about to arrive,” Rafe said. Gabi smiled sadly. “I know that everything you said came from a caring place,” Gabi said.
“It did. You know, I didn’t mean to be hard on you. It’s just, I love you. I love you, and I want you to be happy,” Rafe said. Gabi said that she was happy that Rafe was going home. Rafe told Gabi that when she left the hospital, she always had a home with him.
Stefan was working on his computer in the Bistro when E.J. walked in. “Still trying to get the hang of it, are you? Running a legitimate business?” E.J. said. Stefan asked E.J. why he was there. “I’m suing you for defamation,” E.J. said as he served Stefan with papers. “When did I defame you?” Stefan asked. E.J. reminded Stefan that he had told the mayor that E.J. had been an accomplice in Jude’s kidnapping.
“And since that will undoubtedly hurt my reputation and therefore my career prospects, I’m going to need to be well compensated,” E.J. said. Stefan called E.J. delusional. “You admitted to me that you helped Sloan Petersen cover up the fact that she stole your ex-wife’s baby,” Stefan said. Stefan argued that the truth was a good defense against defamation. E.J. chuckled.
“The truth is a solid defense against defamation. However, the burning question is, who is going to give a damn about the truth when it becomes common knowledge that I slept with your wife,” E.J. countered. With a smirk, E.J. reminded Stefan that Gabi had thrown herself at him and that he believed the Intruder would print a blind item about “the night of passion.” E.J. argued that a jury would view Stefan as a humiliated husband out for revenge.
“If you sign this affidavit saying that any and all accusations you made about me to Mayor Price and anyone else, for that matter, were patently false, [I won’t file the lawsuit],” E.J. said. Stefan signed the affidavit. Before Stefan returned the papers, he noted that Gabi had said that she had only slept with E.J. once. “There was only ever that one time,” E.J. confirmed. After Stefan gave E.J. the papers, E.J. added that Gabi had thrown herself at him a second time, but he had turned her down out of respect for Stefan. “I doubt you’ll ever be able to get that image out of your head. Of said one time. Am I right?” E.J. said with a smile. E.J. patted Stefan on the arm and walked out.
From the hospital hallway, Rafe called E.J. and warned him to stay away from Gabi. “Is that a threat?” E.J. asked. “Go to hell,” Rafe said before he ended the call. E.J. smiled as he walked through the square. “Guess he didn’t get the memo that there will soon be no marriage to stay out of. That marriage is doomed,” E.J. said.
In Gabi’s hospital room, Stefan entered with a bouquet of flowers, just like in Gabi’s dream. “You brought me flowers?” Gabi said. Stefan admitted that the nurse had asked him to deliver the flowers to Gabi. The flowers included a note from the assistants at Gabi Chic. “Great. Everyone could see how insane that woman was except me,” Gabi muttered. Gabi asked Stefan why he was there. “I just spoke to my lawyer. I’m filing for divorce,” Stefan said.
In the town square, Aaron explained to Felicity that Mark had asked him to pick her up because Mark had an important meeting to attend. When Aaron attempted to peek into Felicity’s bag from the bakery, she slapped his hand and noted that the contents were for Mark.
“He’s a really good brother, huh? Taking care of us the way he does. I think mom and dad would be very proud of him,” Aaron said. “I wish they hadn’t died,” Felicity said. Aaron agreed. “It’s just you, me, and Mark. We lost them in the accident,” Aaron said. Aaron told Felicity that, like Mark, he was there for her if she needed him.
In the park, Mark talked to his sister, “Abigail,” and he complimented her on her decision to fake her wedding vows to Chad. Abigail assured Mark that no one had seen her retrieve the box of wedding mementos from the Horton house. “As far as Chad knows, you’ve never seen that paper [with Abigail’s wedding vows] before?” Mark asked. “Not at all,” Abigail confirmed. With a sigh, Abigail admitted that she felt sorry for Chad.
“I can imagine how hard this is for you,” Mark said. “For me? Forget about me. I’m lying to him. Who cares how I feel?” Abigail said. Abigail told Mark that she hated the situation. “I hate how hurt [Chad] will be when he finds out. Has the man not been through enough?” Abigail said.
“You have a good heart. And I love you for that. Hey, this hasn’t been easy for me, either. The man obviously went through hell when his wife was murdered, and now to make him think that she’s back when she’s not, when she never will be back, but what’s the alternative?” Mark said. Abigail stressed that there was no alternative if they hoped to save their mother from Clyde.
“The hardest part for me is lying to Aaron and Felicity,” Mark said. Mark noted that their siblings had taken the news poorly and that Felicity often talked to her mom as if she was in heaven. “Well, as sad as that is, you know, we can take heart in the fact that this will all soon be over. And that we’ll be able to tell them that their mother, our mother, is alive,” Abigail said. As Mark noted that they needed to continue to keep their siblings in the dark, Aaron and Felicity entered the clearing.
“What are you two doing here?” Mark asked. “I was taking Felicity to feed the ducks,” Aaron said. Felicity gave Mark the pastry she had brought from work. Aaron asked Mark about his meeting. “It finished early,” Mark said. Mark explained that he had decided to walk through the park, and he had run into his patient, Abigail Deveraux. Mark introduced Abigail to Aaron and Felicity.
“You look familiar,” Felicity said. Abigail stammered, “I’m pretty sure we haven’t met.” Mark announced that he needed to return to work, so Aaron and Felicity said goodbye and left for the duck pond. Once the siblings were gone, Abigail said, “I can’t believe I just saw my little brother and my little sister after all this time, and they didn’t even know it was me.” Abigail said that although she knew she looked different after the plastic surgery, it was still a shock. “I miss them,” Abigail said. “They’re great kids,” Mark said.
Chad was in the Horton living room, looking at his kids’ drawings, when Julie entered. “Chad, we have to talk,” Julie said. Julie explained that Charlotte had been playing dress-up in the attic and had seen the box of Chad’s wedding mementos. “I pulled that out the other day. I wanted to show it to Abby to see if she would remember anything,” Chad said. With a grin, Chad told Julie that Abigail had remembered her wedding vows.
“That’s wonderful. Wow, I’m glad she remembers something,” Julie said. “Is there a but coming?” Chad asked. With a nod, Julie explained that Charlotte had asked about talking to her mother in heaven.
“I got upset. I got angry. Because [Charlotte] could talk to her mother if we wanted it, because her mother is not in heaven. Her mother is just across town. And if Abigail could see how much her little daughter needs her, Chad, it’s time that you told those children that their mother is alive,” Julie said. Chad said he agreed but that Abigail was opposed to the idea.
“[Abigail] doesn’t remember the kids. She doesn’t remember anything about them,” Chad said. Julie argued that they did not know how long it would take or if Abigail would recover her memories. “Anybody could talk to the children. Wouldn’t it be better to have the news from their father that their mother’s alive?” Julie asked. Chad told Julie she was right and that he would tell the kids about Abigail. Chad called Abigail and asked her to meet him at the Horton house.
In the park, Mark sat on a bench and stared at a photo on his phone. “Don’t worry, Mom. I’m going to get you out of this,” Mark said. Aaron and Felicity returned, and they asked Mark why he was not back at work. “I just got a phone call from a patient I had to take,” Mark said. With a smirk, Aaron asked about Mark’s patient. “I still think she looked familiar,” Felicity said.
When Abigail arrived at the Horton house, Chad told her that Julie had taken the kids to the bakery. “When the kids get home, I’m going to tell them the truth. I want us to tell them that their mother is alive,” Chad said.
