Eileen Davidson headed back to DAYS for story arc

Fan favorite Eileen Davidson will be headed back to Days of our Lives this summer. Davidson surprised fans last year by announcing that she'd be exiting the show. Davidson made her DAYS debut in 1993.

Eileen Davidson (Kristen DiMera) is headed back to Days of our Lives.

"Going back to be a bad girl for a little bit," the actress posted on her Twitter account, @eileen_davidson.

"As an important member of the Days family it is exciting to have Eileen return," DAYS co-executive producer Greg Meng stated. "The writers have some great things cooking for Kristen and we can't wait for the fans to see what this will mean for Salem. Must-watch TV at its best! Stay tuned!"

In a move that caught many fans by surprise, Davidson announced last July that she'd be exiting her Emmy-nominated role because she needed "some time off to enjoy my family." After the actress was flooded with messages from fans stating how much they'd miss seeing her on-screen, Davidson took to her official Facebook page to express that she was "honestly so moved by the outpouring of support and love" from fans.

The actress was also careful to emphasize that she was not retiring and would consider returning to DAYS after some time off. Davidson also noted that she was not planning to jump full-time to another soap. She did, however, make a handful of appearances as Ashley Abbott on The Young and the Restless after her DAYS exit.

Davidson made her DAYS debut as Kristen Blake in 1993. Three years after that, she began paying a second character, Susan Banks. Later, Davidson played Susan's three siblings, Sister Mary Moira Banks, Thomas Banks, and Penelope Kent. The actress left DAYS in 1998.

Davidson isn't scheduled to return to the DAYS studio until March, which means that she won't be appearing on-screen until sometime this summer.

UPDATE (July 19):Davidson has announced on Twitter that her first on-air appearance is scheduled for July 25. Due to a national pre-emption, Davidson's first airdate has now been pushed back to Monday, July 28.
