Peter Reckell nixes a return -- and GH rumors

Bo Brady could have been heading home to Salem, but the return trip has been put on hold. Emmy nominee Peter Reckell took to social media to confirm his non-return and to also quash rumors that he'd landed another daytime gig.

Peter Reckell (Bo Brady) has taken to social media to address two recent rumors regarding a possible return to daytime television. There's good news and bad news -- depending upon how you look at it.

Reckell confirmed a Soap Opera Digest report that he had been in talks to rejoin Days of our Lives as the iconic Bo Brady. Those talks, however, broke off.

"Ken [Corday, Days of our Lives' executive producer] and I talked, and as before we could not come to [an] agreement," Reckell shared on Twitter.

Reckell originated the role of Bo Brady in 1983. He later left the show in 1987, before returning again from 1990 to 1992. His most recent return began in 1995 and ended last year when the actor decided not to renew his contract with the show.

"Days of Our Lives has been my home, my life, for almost 30 years. Bo Is a character that developed from my soul, and has touched many lives, but none more than my own," Reckell said in a statement at the time. "I took my place in the hierarchy of the show, in the storyline, moving others aside, in the [1980s]. Now others have moved into the place I once held. I have been very fortunate to have had such a long, meaningful, run. But now, with a torn heart, I have to say goodbye to the people, family, the character, that I love."

Immediately after word of Reckell's failed negotiations with DAYS surfaced, rumors had the actor headed to ABC's General Hospital. Digest reported that Reckell had screen-tested with GH actress Finola Hughes. Internet chatter has Reckell slated to play the character of Sam McCall's father.

Reckell also took to Twitter to quiet those whispers.

"As for the rumors about other soaps, [..] over the last year those were started by people who thought they could benefit from them," Reckell stated. "The doors that are opening for me are not in daytime TV. Thanks as always for your generous love and support."

Days of our Lives had no comment on the talks between Reckell and show execs. Neither Reckell nor DAYS has addressed the latest rumor: whether or not the NBC soap will consider recasting the role of Bo.
