Contract talks between Peter Reckell and show executives do not appear to be going as smoothly as everyone would have hoped. The longer the talks go on, the more defeated Reckell has seemingly become. The Emmy-nominated performer has been telling castmates that he'll be exiting the show.
Long-time favorite Peter Reckell (Bo Brady) may be preparing to leave Days of our Lives, according to a published report. Why would Reckell, who has been a DAYS fixture since he first joined the show in 1983, be on his way out? Contract talks between Reckell and show executives have become increasingly protracted, and there are fears that the sides are too far apart to be able to reach some sort of middle ground.
As a result, Soap Opera Digest reports that Reckell has been "quietly informing castmates that he is leaving the show."
Reports surfaced during Reckell's last round of contract talks that the actor's pay had been slashed somewhere in the neighborhood of 45%. Salary is again said to be the key stumbling block in the negotiations.
A Days of our Lives spokesperson reminds Soap Central that show policy prevents commenting on contract talks. The show did veer slightly from that policy by remarking, "We hope that Peter stays with Days of our Lives."
Reckell originated the role of Bo Brady in 1983. He later left the show in 1987, before returning again from 1990 to 1992. His most recent return began in 1995 and is currently ongoing.
