Bryan Dattilo denies being fired

Bryan Dattilo, who has appeared as Lucas Roberts on Days of our Lives for nearly two decades, will be leaving the show. However, the actor states that it was his decision to part company with the NBC soap.

As previously reported, Bryan R. Dattilo (Lucas Roberts) has exited his role on Days of our Lives. The actor, however, asserts that he was not fired -- he opted to walk away from the role he's played off-and-on since 1993.

Before Days of our Lives broke for its Christmas hiatus, Dattilo was informed by the show that his contract would not be renewed. Rather than stick around on a recurring basis, Dattilo announced that he'd leave the show.

Dattilo's contract doesn't officially expire until February, but the actor has already filmed his final scenes. Dattilo had been scheduled to film an additional scene when Days of our Lives returned from its holiday break earlier this month. At the show's suggestion, Dattilo opted not to return to film such a short appearance.

"He has taped his last episode," Dattilo's manager confirms.

Dattilo's final airdate has not yet been announced.
