Tomlin appoints Christopher Whitesell as co-head writer

More changes continue to take place behind-the-scenes at Days of our Lives. The show has named a new co-head writer, an appointment made by new co-executive producer, Gary Tomlin. It is unclear if the hiring hints to any imminent danger for embattled head writer, Dena Higley.

Newly appointed co-executive producer Gary Tomlin is wasting no time putting his own personal touches on Days of our Lives. Less than two weeks after being named co-EP by DAYS head honcho Ken Corday, Tomlin has announced that Christopher Whitesell will join the show as co-head writer.

Whitesell, a two-time Daytime Emmy winner, joins Days of our Lives with a well-established history in daytime television. Whitesell has served on the writing teams of Another World, As the World Turns, General Hospital, Guiding Light, One Life to Live, and Sunset Beach. In his previous daytime stops, Whitesell has worked as co-head writer four times.

This is not the first time that Whitesell will be penning stories for the residents of Salem. He worked previously as associate head writer on Days of our Lives from 2000 to 2001.

Whitesell earned Emmys for his work on One Life to Live in 1994 and Guiding Light in 1986. He has earned an additional seven nominations for his work.

A Days of our Lives spokesperson was unavailable for comment because of the Labor Day holiday.
