Tom Langan has been removed as the head writer and co-executive producer of Days of our Lives. DAYS executive producer Ken Corday made the announcement last week.
In a statement, Corday explained the reasons behind the change atop the writing staff. "Tom Langan and I had creative differences, and a change was in order," Corday stated.
Rumors of a rift between Langan and Corday first started to swirl in October when the show's focus on teen storylines was taken to task. According to a DAYS insider, Corday had wanted Langan to focus less on the show's younger set. It is unclear if this issue led to Langan's dismissal.
Effective immediately, Langan will be succeeded by Peter Brash and Paula Cwikly. Langan had served as head writer since 1999.
Brash has been working in the soaps for two decades. Brash has been with DAYS since 1998 and prior to that he served on the writing team of Another World. Brash took home a Writers Guild Award last year as part of DAYS' award-winning writing team.
Cwikly has been part of the DAYS team since 1991. Cwikly served as the director of daytime promotions and programming for NBC. Most recently her involved with DAYS had her serving as an associate head writer.
