Soap Central has learned that Bryan Dattilo (Lucas Roberts) will be returning to work on Days of our Lives later this year.
According to a show insider, Dattilo will return as Lucas Roberts this summer. Soap Central contacted NBC about this report, but a spokesperson for the network declined comment on the report.
Dattilo exited - if you can call it that - the role of Lucas Roberts last week when his character was critically injured in a fire. At the time, it was reported that Dattilo was fired from the show. The show's executive producer, Ken Corday, insisted that use of the word "fired" was not correct. Corday repeatedly said that Dattilo's character was being given "a rest."
It is unclear at this time exactly how long Dattilo will be back at Days of our Lives - or if it was always the intention of the writers to bring back the character. Some insiders speculate that the writers will tie up some loose ends while others hint that Dattilo's return would be on a recurring basis - a move that could cut the expenses involved in keeping Dattilo under contract.
