Why Jada and Rafe's Days of our Lives wedding has special meaning for Stephen Nichols

Days of our Lives' Steve Johnson is about to walk Jada Hunter down the aisle so she can (hopefully) marry Rafe Hernandez. While the identity of the groom might be in question, the scenes still brought back sweet soap wedding memories for Stephen Nichols.

Stephen Nichols goes back to the past

Nichols, who has played Steve off and on since 1985, took to Instagram to share why Jada and Rafe's wedding day holds a special place in his heart. He recalled a former co-star and a Salem wedding from long ago.

"What a gift it is to get play on the legacy of this friendship," Nichols wrote alongside photos from this week's wedding, as well as Steve and Kayla's first nuptials. "Nearly 37 years ago, Steve’s best friend Marcus Hunter, stood beside him on his wedding day as best man. This week, he gets to bring the moment full circle as he walks Marcus’s daughter, Jada Hunter, down the aisle. What a joy it was to work with the late Richard Biggs, and it’s so cool that his legacy lives on with the beautiful and talented @eliacantu. #Days #wombtotombandbeyond."

A Days of our Lives legacy lives on

Steve and Marcus were old childhood friends who grew up in an orphanage together. Richard Biggs, who passed away in 2004, created the role of Dr. Marcus Hunter in 1987 and played him until 1994. Nichols' hashtag "#wombtotombandbeyond" pays homage to the phrase Marcus and Steve used to say to each other as a symbol of their deep friendship.

Marcus was there for Steve at his 1997 wedding to Kayla (Mary Beth Evans), where the bride spoke for the first time in months. An explosion cost Kayla her hearing, but surgery restored it. However, she still couldn't speak when her wedding day began. Halfway through the ceremony, Kayla found her voice and spoke her vows to Steve.

Marcus had not been seen or heard about for years, but in 2022, his daughter arrived in Salem. Jada (Elia Cantu) was a cop from Seattle who had transferred to the Salem PD. The next year, we met his other daughter, Talia (Aketra Sevillian), who was a doctor like her father, but she didn't stay in town long.

Now, Jada thinks she is about to marry Rafe (Galen Gering) but has no idea that the man at the end of the aisle is really his doppelganger, Arnold. Will an escaped Rafe make it to Jada before she says 'I do' to the wrong man?
