In Rafe’s hospital room, Paulina demanded, under her authority as mayor, that Rafe wake up. She gasped when Rafe stirred and opened his eyes. “I can’t believe that worked!” a wide-eyed Paulina exclaimed. She began rambling to Rafe but stopped herself when she realized that he couldn’t respond because of the tube down his throat. She told Rafe to stay awake and then rushed to get Kayla.

Inside Connie’s apartment, Melinda struggled against her restraints. Meanwhile, outside the apartment, Jada knocked on the door and announced herself to Connie. She noted that the door was unlocked, and she opened it. Jada went inside but found the apartment seemingly empty. She called out again and then moved through the apartment, eventually ending up at the closed door of the room where Melinda was being kept captive.

Before Jada could open the door, she received a call from Paulina, who excitedly informed Jada that Rafe had woken up. Jada left the apartment in a hurry.

At the Gabi Chic office, Gabi bragged to Connie about how well her life had been going. Connie forced a smile and moved away from a preoccupied Gabi. With her back turned, Connie pulled out a knife and muttered, “Not for long, slut.” As she started stalking toward Gabi with the knife behind her back, the phone rang. Gabi answered, and when she hung up, she informed Connie that Connie needed to find Melinda Trask “immediately.” Connie lied to a confused Gabi that Melinda had taken a leave of absence.

Gabi stressed about what she would do. However, Gabi’s mood improved considerably after Paulina called her with the news about Rafe’s awakening. She happily relayed the news to Connie and rushed out, to Connie’s chagrin.

Later, Connie arrived back at the apartment and found a crying Melinda. She snarked that at least she “got a smile” from Li, as she looked toward the grinning cardboard cutout. Connie removed Melinda’s gag and said that she had been forced to return home early after Rafe’s unexpected awakening had sidelined her plan. Melinda was pleased at the development and thought Connie might be panicked.

Connie scoffed at the insinuation and reminded Melinda that Rafe had not seen his attacker. Melinda contended that Connie still looked nervous. Connie admitted that she was perturbed because “that floozy is on cloud nine,” referring to Gabi. Connie told an amused Melinda about her failed revenge scheme against Gabi. Connie’s expression darkened, and she stated that only one way remained to make Gabi pay. Melinda’s smile fell as Connie brandished the knife and strode toward the bed.

When Kayla later entered Rafe's room, she examined Rafe and removed his tube. She urged him to take it easy after he groaned in pain. He managed to ask what had happened to him. Kayla updated Rafe on his condition and on the tests that had been run on him. Jada ran into the room and hugged Rafe, who was happy to see her.

Later, Jada sat with Rafe and expressed her joy at his return to her. Gabi arrived shortly thereafter and shared a warm reunion with her brother. Rafe still wanted to know what had happened to him, so Jada and Gabi cautiously asked if he remembered having been attacked at the cemetery. Rafe had a memory of being on the phone with Paulina and then feeling a sudden pain in his back. However, he had not seen the face of the person who had attacked him.

Rafe was stunned after Gabi and Jada revealed that Bobby had been identified as the attacker and that Bobby had apparently committed suicide. When he suggested that the story was over, Jada looked doubtful. Later, Jada helped Rafe eat and insisted that she would be pampering him until he recovered. He wanted updates on the police department, so she told him about her appointment as commissioner and about a “high-profile hit-and-run case.” Rafe suddenly had a memory of hearing a woman say something about an open grave, but he did not relay the memory to Jada.

Outside Rafe’s room, Paulina and Kayla expressed relief at the turn of events. Kayla indicated that Rafe’s test results had been encouraging. She did not foresee any problems or lasting effects from his coma.

In the park, Chad approached Stephanie and apologized for being late for Everett’s memorial, as he had taken the kids for their first day of school. Stephanie understood and explained that she and Jada had already scattered Everett’s ashes. She felt it appropriate, since she and Jada had known Everett the best. Stephanie mentioned her puzzlement at the response she had received from Everett’s supposed friend Connie. Stephanie chalked the misunderstanding up to Everett having lied again or to Leo getting his facts wrong.

Chad expressed his regret that there’d been few people at the memorial, since he knew it had been a hard day for Stephanie. She acknowledged the difficulty but felt that Chad also had it rough preparing for the kids’ first day of school without Abigail. Chad and Stephanie hoped the circumstances would soon change for Thomas and Charlotte and that the kids would truly have their mother back. Chad inquired about Stephanie’s meeting with Abigail, and Stephanie replied that their encounter had gone nicely. Stephanie had regaled Abigail with stories about the cousins’ “childhood exploits,” but Stephanie had found one part of the conversation odd.

Chad listened as Stephanie filled him in on Abigail’s claim that she had been talking to Kayla on the phone. While Stephanie had initially believed the story, it had later been refuted by Kayla herself. Chad attributed the mix-up to Abigail’s confusion. Stephanie hesitantly broached the possibility that Abigail could have been lying. Chad bristled at the suggestion and defended Abigail.

Stephanie backed off and agreed with Chad’s assertion that Abigail had just been confused. Also, Stephanie didn’t have an answer for who else Abigail could have been talking with about a plan. Stephanie expressed optimism that with time, things would improve with Chad and Abigail.

At the DiMera mansion, “Abigail” conversed with Stefano’s portrait. She expressed her guilt for having lied to Chad but stressed that she was doing what she had to do. She further explained that family “meant everything” to her and her brother, just as it had to Stefano. Steve appeared at the room’s entrance, startling “Abigail.” She jumped from the sofa, and he apologized for disturbing her.

After Steve clarified who he was to "Abigail," he asked her what she had meant about family and her brother. She claimed she had been talking about the close relationship she’d been told she had with her brother. Steve talked up J.J., and when “Abigail” conveyed her difficulty with keeping up with all the names, Steve referenced his friend Abe’s recent experience with amnesia. He promised “Abigail” that he would help her, just as he had done with Abe.

Steve then brought up Abigail’s assertion that she had been working on a treatment plan with Kayla. Steve believed it to be a great idea, “if it was true.” Steve conveyed Kayla’s assertion that she had not spoken with Abigail the prior day. “Abigail” tried to excuse the discrepancy as doctor/patient confidentiality, but Steve remained unconvinced. She then attempted to get Steve to empathize with her feelings of confusion and displacement. Steve admitted that he could relate because he had been through something similar when he had believed himself to be “that guy on the wall.”

Steve didn’t want to go into details, especially after “Abigail” expressed shock. With a pointed look at “Abigail,” Steve conceded that while he had felt like a different person during that time, he had realized that he had never been Stefano. “Abigail” believed the situation had to have been “strange” for Steve, and he added that it had been “a hell of a lot more than strange” for everyone else. "Abigail" could see why people had their doubts about her, even Abigail’s own mother.

Steve acknowledged that Jennifer’s reaction had to have been difficult to hear, but he defended it as a natural response to having been asked to “believe the unbelievable.” Steve suggested that “Abigail” get in touch with Kayla about a treatment plan, then he wished her well and left. After Steve’s departure, “Abigail” looked nervously at Stefano’s portrait and declared that “Uncle Steve could be a problem.”
