How Belle’s attraction to Days of our Lives’ EJ could come back to bite her

Ever since Belle (Martha Madison) and Shawn (Brandon Beemer) broke up on Days of Our Lives, Belle has been sowing her wild oats by having a fling with EJ (Dan Feuerriegel).

She’s fully aware that he wants to steal back his job as district attorney from her, and he knows she knows, which has made for some cute moments between the two. While their chemistry is off the charts, EJ’s been keeping some dark secrets from her and has bold-faced lied to her.

It’s almost like an addiction

Belle is skating on thin ice because Mayor Paulina (Jackée Harry) found out she was sleeping with EJ and doesn’t think she can be impartial as DA while they try to press charges against him for the whole Rafe/Arnold (Galen Gering) debacle. Madison explained Belle's motivations for taking the job to Soaps.

"[Belle wanted to] bring integrity back to the office," Madison said. "She felt with EJ being the district attorney, that he wasn’t really doing his job. He was using the office to go after his enemies, and she wanted to make it right."

The Days of Our Lives star stressed that Belle’s moral compass was strong and she has always strived for justice. Yet, EJ has been doing some nefarious things, and she’s still sleeping with him.

"Everybody’s got a dark side," the actress said, adding that this new, single life she’s experiencing has caused her to explore other aspects of herself. That includes sleeping with the bad boy. She feels Belle wants to enjoy herself and EJ happens to be available, but added, "Those things tend to bite you in the butt pretty quick."

Shawn even called her out for being a hypocrite and always taking a moral high ground while turning a blind eye to EJ. "I think nobody knows her better than Shawn," she said. "And I think it really burned her up because he knows that about her, and I think she knows it too."

While currently, she’s unhappy with EJ, it’s only a matter of time before the two gravitate back to each other like giant magnets. Madison tried to not liken Belle’s fixation on EJ to an addiction but said that it might take Belle’s life to completely spiral out of control before she can finally be done with him.
