On Days of our Lives, Kate (Lauren Koslow) was warned by EJ (Dan Feuerriegel) that he would get back at her for revealing the truth about Johnny’s (Carson Boatman) conception to the young man. Consequently, she worried for her kids. Her worry turned to fear when she learned that her son Rex was injured in a hit-and-run accident and thought EJ might have been behind it. While we don’t (yet) know if EJ had a hand in it, we do know that Kyle Lowder is returning to the show to play Rex and recently opened up about how he feels there.
Coincidence brought him back to Days of our Lives

Rex had moved to Chicago with Sarah (Linsey Godfrey) and pretended to be the father of her unborn child. However, Bonnie (Judie Evans) went there for a visit and immediately figured out that Rex wasn’t the bio-daddy. Sarah had no choice but to return to Salem and tell Xander (Paul Telfer) that the baby was his. Ultimately, things worked out for them, and they even got married.
Rex stayed in Chicago as Lowder had picked up another gig as a news anchor for KTVN, a CBS station in Reno, Nevada. The actor opened up to TV Insider, revealing that every few months, he would return to California to catch up with friends and had been in contact with Ron Carlivati, the former head writer of DAYS. After one conversation, Lowder explained, “Coincidentally, almost serendipitously, he had an idea for Rex to make an appearance because of the storyline with his mother on the show, Kate. So, I got to go to L.A. and spend some quality time with friends, see people that I’ve known for decades who were considered professional family, and it was a week of business and pleasure.”
He doesn’t take it for granted

The actor further explained that he was eager to work with Koslow and Josh Taylor, who plays Rex’s dad Roman, noting, “I love the chemistry that we have, and I was so happy to see their faces and to work with them again.”
Even though his main job is now in Reno, Lowder didn’t expect that he and Rex would continually be an active part of the show. “I’ve been told multiple times, in different ways, by multiple people running the show that I’m very much a part of the fabric of Days of our Lives,” he explained. He then noted that it meant everything to him that the show would continue to keep his character involved in ongoing storylines.
Returning to DAYS was old hat for Lowder, who said that each time he goes back, it’s like he was 19 years old again, starting anew. Everything he does is the same as when he was a regular on the show; as he noted, “I didn’t skip a beat. I didn’t feel any rust whatsoever. It’s so familiar to me.”
Days of Our Lives can be viewed on the Peacock app.
