On Days of our Lives, Kate Roberts Brady is a mom to many who has been separated and reunited with several of her now-adult children. In real life, Lauren Koslow understands what Kate has gone through, as she was also separated from one of her children for many years.
Art imitates life for Days of our Lives star
Kate walked away from an abusive marriage years ago, which separated her from her first two children, Billie and Austin Reed. After reuniting with Billie and Austin, Kate also learned she'd had twins years before who had been taken from her, Rex and Cassie.
Off-screen, Koslow was separated from her son, who she gave up for adoption when she was 16 and he was just three days old.

Koslow went on to marry Nick Schillace and raise three children with him, but she always felt a longing for the child she gave up.
"I remember one of our producers saying, 'Oh, you do such a good job as a mother. Kate should have more children,'" Koslow told Women's World. "My children were 2 and 5 at the time, and I played it off, but deep down, there was all that pain and it was always there, so it was immediately available to me as an actress. I used it all the time… but it was painful."
Lauren Koslow finds her son
Koslow finally decided to take advantage of new technology several years ago when she created an account on Ancestry.com. She didn't check it regularly, but one day, a miracle happened.
"The most amazing thing is that I hadn’t been on Ancestry.com for probably three years and one day I just decided to go on...and I saw this connection," she said. "Had I never gone back on, I would never have known. And I’ll tell you, I’ve acted in moments that are supreme emotion on DAYS, but I literally fell to my knees."
Koslow and her son Josh eventually met and got to know one another, even taking a road trip together. Now, they are in constant contact, something the actress couldn't be more grateful for.
"These past few years have been the highest of life, and sometimes the lowest, because you are recreating a relationship," Koslow explained. "Right now, it’s really in a wonderful place. We text each other every single day. We live on opposite coasts, which makes it a little difficult, but it’s a miracle in my life and I’m forever grateful that we were able to reconnect."
