Days of our Lives spoilers preview: Salem learns Doug Williams has died

It's a bittersweet Thanksgiving week in Salem when Horton homecomings are met with a shocking tragedy. Julie (Susan Seaforth Hayes) is thrilled when Jack (Matthew Ashford) and Jennifer Deveraux (Melissa Reeves) arrive in Salem to spend Thanksgiving. Their son JJ (Casey Moss) surprised her two weeks ago and now Jack and Jennifer are also home.

Sadly, when Jack goes upstairs to wake Doug (Bill Hayes), he finds that Doug has passed away in his sleep. Julie is devastated when Jack delivers the news and goes to her husband's side. She touches Doug's hand and wedding ring wondering how she can go on without the man she'd been in love with for more than 50 years.

Telling Doug's daughter

Kristian Alfonso makes her DAYS return as Doug's daughter Hope Williams Brady. Jennifer calls Hope in Greece to tell her cousin that Doug didn't wake up from his nap and had passed.

Hope is absolutely beside herself and knows that she has to return to Salem as soon as possible. That would mean leaving Bo (Peter Reckell) behind. He is still in a coma, but Hope needs to be in Salem for her family.

News spreads...with flashbacks

Lani (Sal Stowers) and Eli (Lamon Archey) are also home for the holiday and can barely believe the news about Doug. As Lani says, Doug and Julie have always been the perfect couple. They were someone the younger generations could look to for inspiration for their own love lives. Eli is there to comfort his grandmother during this tragic time.

Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) tells a stunned Marlena (Deidre Hall) that their good friend Doug has passed. It was only a few years ago when Doug thought he would lose Julie due to a heart condition, but now he is the one to have died first.

Expect to see numerous flashbacks of Doug through the years before heading into December for a memorial honoring the character of Doug, as well as Bill Hayes who died in January.
