Julie (Susan Seaforth Hayes) was all ready to set up for a beautiful Thanksgiving meal with family back in town when Jack (Matthew Ashford) delivered the most devastating news. Doug (the late Bill Hayes) had passed away in his sleep on a very special and bittersweet holiday.

A broken Julie makes her way upstairs to say goodbye to her beloved husband of 50 years. She wonders how she is going to go on without Doug and remembers all the time they spent together. Doug would always sing for his wife and for his daughter, who he always called "Princess."
Jennifer (Melissa Reeves) has the unenviable task of calling Hope (Kristian Alfonso) in Greece and telling Hope that her father is gone. Hope and Shawn (Brandon Beemer) comfort one another and agree they must somehow get back to Salem, but they don't want to leave a comatose Bo's (Peter Reckell) side. Hope has been there for Bo since he entered his coma in 2023 but forgave Shawn for shooting his father because Shawn truly believed he was protecting her.
Salemites remember Doug
When Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) stops by Marlena's (Deidre Hall) office, Marlena is ready to give her friend an update on John (the late Drake Hogestyn), but Kayla stops her before Marlena can get into too much detail. She informs Marlena that Doug passed away in his sleep.
Neither woman can believe it, as Doug had always seemed so full of life. Just a few years ago, he sat vigil by Julie's hospital bedside when she needed a heart transplant. He thought he was going to lose his wife, but he was the one who passed first.
Lani (Sal Stowers) and Eli (Lamon Archey) also learn what has happened after their visit with Abe (James Reynolds) and Paulina (Jackee Harry). They returned to town expecting a joyous holiday with family and never expected tragedy to strike. Eli becomes a source of comfort for his grandmother as he and Lani marvel at the long and happy marriage Doug and Julie had.
